Kim is the Executive Director of Viewpoints Research Institute and co-manages the research group with Alan.
A media developer, media critic, and cognitive scientist, she has been working with Alan Kay and his research team since 1986 with the Vivarium Project atApple Computer's Advanced Technology Group.
A core member of the "Squeak Central" team since Squeak's inception in 1996, Kim primarily focuses on applying new technologies and media in creative ways to enrich learning environments for children and adults.
She works with children and teachers in a variety of schools and community learning centers developing and testing Squeak-based collaborative dynamic curriculum and exploring how powerful ideas can become more accessible to children around the world.
Prentice Hall recently published a book edited by Kim and Mark Guzdial titled "Squeak – Open Personal Computing and Multimedia".
Kim received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1979. Prior to her work at Disney, Kim was part of Apple Computer's Advanced Technology Group for over 10 years. In 1995, she was invited to be a visiting scholar at NYU's Media Ecology Department.
