How'd it go?

At the end of the Oxford study abroad term, we're curious what you thought about this experience. We'd love to hear what you think, even anonymously. (Click "Add to this page" after each entry – if you type in all of them and THEN hit "Add to this Page," only one will be saved.)

Was this a class that you found interesting and enjoyable?

Definitely, the class discussions were interesting. I will definiltey be able to use the research methods and statistics knowledge down the road. I thought the coding was fun, but it was so basic I don't know if I'd ever use it. From an engineering standpoint, MATLAB would probably be more useful and what all of us would use from here on out.

I definitely found this class interesting and enjoyable. At the first meeting for the Oxford program, I was looking for a class that I didn't need for credit but wanted to take for fun. This was the only class that met both of those criteria. I learned a lot from it and would recommend it to anyone.

Yes, it was a great class. I was looking for a class that would be enjoyable but didn't need it for any particular requirement (other than a free elective). It was fun and I learned some good things.

Absolutely enjoyable. Both the material itself as well as the integration of the different disciplines represented were very interesting.

Great class. Tech needs more interdisciplinary courses. I should've been exposed to this stuff when I was a freshman.

Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I would recommend it to anyone who had the chance to take it.

yup.

yes. very unique course that would be interesting to anyone.

For whom would this class be most useful (e.g., what majors)?

I think this class is useful for every major. It's one of those classes that anyone can take and enjoy.

I think it would be something good for anyone to take.

it would be good for anyone... but it was a great refrain for engineering majors. some good abstract thinking while still employing scientific thinking and methods

If we were to offer this class again, what should we be sure to leave OUT? What was the worst part?

I think the debate was fun and could be applicable to the course, but I think the format may need some revision, as well as placing more of an emphasis on the computation aspects of the course in the debate.

i didnt think that there was a bad part. Maybe just dont cluster the last three projects into the last week... but even that turned out to not be that bad.

If we were to offer this class again, what should we be sure to leave IN? What was the best part?

blah blah blah

All of it.

I liked having the 2 professor set-up so each could teach within their expertise.

all was good

Having the two teachers was definately a good idea...I liked having two professional opinions available.

Keep the focus off the programming. I liked that we didn't have to be CS majors to do the coding. I did enjoy the two professor format.

Obviously, a lot of people were concerned (read: "panic-stricken") when they realized that the course involved programming. How bad was it? Was it at all useful to have the programming? Or would the class be better without it?

I was one of those people who was "concerned" about the programming aspect of the class. Although I have only programmed in Dr. Scheme, I was able to pick up the Python programming rather quickly. Professor Guzdial explained everything really clearly and the homeworks gave us just enough practice to learn the language.

I thought the programming was really easy and that we honestly could have attempted to do things that were harder/more complex. Python seems to be a decent programming language. I think the programming was useful because although excel can do a lot of things, in some ways python is better - and by emphasizing the actual process of coding I could then program something in matlab or whatever language I have at my disposal if I were to attempt these types of things in other classes/work.

the programming was by no means overwhelming. i thought it was quite easy and fun. very appropriate for the setting at worcester

The programming was well within my small capabilities.
