Progress
Tasks Completed
- Found map interface for project
- Inserted Candidate XML data into MySQL Database
- Scrape Summary State Data from Web
- added 9,354 bills from congressional 2005 data (loading and parsing 9,354 separate XML files turned out to be easier than pulling individual files from the live site)
- created a preliminary interface (currently only some of the data is hooked up. None of the bills data is in this local version; it's 9 megs and needs to be inserted from the command line. I will get to this Monday) http://www.gradualstudent.com/CS8903/final/ (This should now be fixed in IE6 as well)
- Most of the interface is functional now (Use Firefox to check it)
- figured out how to generate maps on the fly. Unfortunately this involves writing to a text file, which I am not comfortable with doing on the live server. So right now the server shows only the Republican donations map, but I will demo the rest from my laptop on Tuesday
- Implemented bills search by keyword
- implemented mock up of notes feature which displays notes in the database, but does not allow for entry at this time.
Current Tasks
Future Tasks
- Integrate Dashboard with backend database (done for the local version and almost complete for the server version)
Project Vision:
- Create a "dashboard" for viewing political candidates and what factors contribute to how they vote on particular issues. Particularly, using a map interface along with contribution data to draw correlations between their contributors and the bills that candidates sponsor.
