Augur anecdotes and comments

This is a place for you to relate any interesting stories about using Augur or any comments you might have.

So I'll start. I had an event titled "Alan Kay talk" last week that was noticed by another user. He wrote me to say that this item was added to his schedule after he saw it on my calendar. Anyway, the day of the talk came around and I started asking people if they were going. No one knew about it, even people who worked extensively with Squeak. I found this puzzling, and brought a Squeaker to my office to show him the event listed in Joy's weekly CoC Calendar email. I was told that this Alan Kay "talk" was in fact via video (i.e. playing a clip of him from a DVD), and that he was not actually going to be present. I notified the person who had seen it on my calendar, and it was all cleared up. Saved us both a trip to GCATT :-)

One thing that would be nice is that if I'm browsing my colleage's schedule and want to switch the day I'm looking at, his or her days should also change with the "next" and "prev" buttons, rather than switching back to my full schedule and then having to reselect his or her name from the list to view the schedule for that day. Then you could have a link to go back to viewing just my schedule. Just a suggestion :)

Reply:
When viewing two calendars side-by-side, Augur should update the views of both calendars when you click the "next day" and "previous day" links. To go back to viewing only your schedule, you can click the "Close _____'s calendar" link above the colleague's calendar view. If either of these behaviors are not there, it may indicate an incompatibility with your browser.

Yep. It is a browser issue. Just tried it with IE and it works fine. With Opera, it keeps trying to load the page from the cache rather than refresh the page with the data from both calendars.

When I'm filling out my attendence diary, how should I mark events that have been cancelled, or that I only show up for a part of? It seems like if an event is cancelled and I only mark it as "didn't attend" then it may seem like I just skipped it.

I would say that if you attend part of it, you can mark it as attended. If it's cancelled, since Augur is using the information to predict your presence at future events, you may want to mark it as not attended, since you were not at the event. Especially if the event recurs and is cancelled some portion of the time, you may want people to know that this is an unreliable event at which to find you. Hope this helps.
