File Naming Conventions
DITC Swiki (home)
DITC Stylebook
We will use the Macromedia naming convention. every file should
start with a lowercase LETTER (not number) and any new word will have
a capital letter (no spaces or underscores). Example: newPage.htm,
homeImage.gif, edCritique.mov, etc.
All files should be named appropiately so that a developer can look
at the file name and know what the page is. The days of 8 character
names are long gone so choose informative names even if they are a
little long. It's better than comp1.htm (what's the difference
between that and comp4.htm?).
Case Sensitive
Web addresses are CASE SENSITIVE. Anything after the .com or .edu
(etc) is case sensitive. I.E. if you type in:
http://www.cc.gatech.edu/projects/DITC
you will get our site. However, if you type in
http://www.cc.gatech.edu/projects/ditc
you will get an error message. Therefore all directory paths and
file names MUST be coded with case sensitivity following the naming
convention I decribed above.
All directories and files have been renamed with the convention
above. The only ones that I did not touch were the movie names and
movgif banners that were associated with the pages with movies on
it. You seemed to have a system for that already. I do not agree
with it and would suggest changing it to fit the rest of the
site (also to make the names more informative), but that's up to you
guys.
