New Site Design v01

- Too many tabs
- The tabs should not curve under like they are, they look more like capsules then tabs
- Tabs curves need to be anti-aliased better (look too jagged). Use a thinner black border line as well.
- Get rid of the lines and balls in the content area, they add useless clutter. Use whitepaces to section off text and movie areas, it looks cleaner and still functions the same.
- The black background for the logo looks out of place. I like the light blue with the slight fade behind the Physical Science and Nuffield information. Use a uniform colouring across the entire top banner.
- The 3 different tasks should be encased in a drop-down jump-on-select box
- If 3 different tasks are condensed, then the Video List, Chat Room, etc. links can be brought back down into the logo bar leaving that top, darker blue area for Login/Sign-up, etc links (I like the New Site Design v01 better in this case).
- Colour scheme on buttons should be changed, don't use such light text on light background (especially with a fade, do away with the tab face fade alltogether).
- The sublink bar should have some sort of colour to set it apart from the plain white background of the text/movie area (again, the New Site Design v01 did a good job of this).
Colour Scheme Needed
I think a colour scheme should be determined before anything else. The bright blue of the upper-most bar does not match anything else in the rest of the page, therefor looks out of place. The heavy black background of the logo isn't offset with any other heavy dark areas making IT look out of place as well. The use of blues and greys (which seem to be a dominate schema in the new site designs thus far) always signify a professional, clean site (think of a sterile hospital or something of the like). Yellow/orange is the natural compliment to blue and should be used as accent colour (i.e. link mouse-overs/active links, slight trim, etc).
Science Ed vs. Tech Ed
There will need to be some sort of "home page" for the site, regardless of out approach. It will contain introductory information about the project and information contained within the site (much like an "About DITC" page). That is where the choice for Science Ed or Tech Ed should be made. Those links are designed to tailor the content of the entire site depending on the user's background/interest. A return to the home page would allow them to change that choice if so desired, or we could incorporate a link into the secondary links section. However, the secondary links section may become too crowded with the addition of more and more links. We need to test if users would want to be able to switch from Science Ed to Tech Ed in one session or are they here to follow only the category that they fall into.
