1. Aguirre, Jose M. "Student Preconceptions about Vector Kinematics", Physics Teacher, v26 n4 (Apr. 1988): 212-216. Examines preconceptions regarding several implicit vector characteristics that 15- to 17-year-old students possess just before taking their first physics course. Shows seven vector characteristics and three tasks for interviewing students. Presents the most common student preconceptions regarding each of the implicit vector characteristics.
2. Aguirre, Jose M.; Rankin, Graham. "College Students' Conceptions about Vector Kinematics", Physics Education, v24 n5 (Sept. 1989): 290-294. A questionnaire and demonstrations were used to identify students' conceptions about the composition of orthogonal velocities. Four questions from the questionnaire are provided and the results for each question are reported. The four implicit vector characteristics of this study are appended.
B. Find titles of other articles related to how forces have orthogonal components, that would point to students misunderstandings related to this idea.
