Final Cut Pro To Do

DITC Swiki
Final Cut Pro DONE
Final Cut Pro CHECKED

July 20, 2004
One Question
1. What is the name of the Mike Ryan sequence that deals with ramps? Please find, compress, put in movies folder, and let me know when it's done/not done.
mthIntroTask.mov
1. Look for the 1st or 2nd day of MTH for students readings the challenge. This should appear before the current footatge.
2. Delete 0:53-0:59, and just have audio where the kids says "You do ... an experiment."
mthOverview I have not reviewed the latest version of this movie.
1. Change name to mthOverV.mov
2. Use scroll effect to break up the movie (look at cCharOverV.mov for examples).
3. 0:58 Increase sound so that you can hear the thread break, or use a clip of one of the grils doing this you can find in mthIntroTask.mov around 1:23.
4. Broadly, I want to have more of Mike Ryan's teaching in the overview. Please find this in the sequences for carBrainstorm.mov and the second sequence on designing with ramps – I need to know the name of this sequence so that I can include it in DITC.
mthFinalDesigns.mov
1. Change name of sequence to mthWinches.mov
2. After the sequences title goes away, but with the 50% opacity art still visible, put the following in 26 pt or more regular font: In this lesson, students conduct test to find key variables in designing with winches. Notice how students confront their early misconceptions during their work.
3. 0:02-0:13 Drop this section on messing about. Start with "Now is the time to do an experiment..."
4. 1:34-1:45 We need subtitles for what Stacey says.

1. Cranework.mov
Overall, I like your cuts. Good job.
0:00 Make initial frame a freeze frame and begin with it in the sequence.Slate should read: Teachers' Crane Design
0:10 Make the font bigger so that most of the subtitles fill out two full lines (at least based on what I am seeing in the first half minute). The font needs shadow as background to make it more readable. You need to open up another sequence with subtitles (see sWorkDay1 in the Goldman folder, Timeline project, and then copy the numbers for Motion onto a sheet of paper, and type them into the specs for your font. Or use another sequence that has subtitles.) 0 Make the transition which brings in and ends the subtitle a bit faster – no more than 3 frames for subtitled transitions. Right now the font is not readable in its compressed form.
0:19 Have the subtitle go away just before the softwipe and then have the next subtitle appear just after the softwipe is finished. Actually do a fade in-fade out rather than a softwipe.
1:25 Make the subtitle fill out 3 lines.
3:23 Somewhat weak ending, which I assume you recognize. Is there some footage from Bernie talking that might work regarding closure here?
END - Once these items are done, put a title, timecode, watermark and copyright on the sequence.

2. CraneReflect.mov
0:00 Take a freeze frame from around 1:04 and begin with it in the sequence. Slate should read: Teachers Reflect On Crane Designs
END - Once these items are done, put a title, timecode, watermark and copyright on the sequence.

1. Look at my revisions to bagT-drawString.mov and implement with the other movies. Finish all up. By the way, where is the test with the bag with the string attached to the bottom? Please change names of movies to conform to the above model. DONE
2. Get Mike Ciinchetta's movies from the other machine, render, and then place on the site. DONE
3. Check all introductory movies and make sure that all have consistent titles, and that they start with the phrase "Quick Peek:" For instance, change title to "Quick Peek: Overview of Cardboard Chair Challenge in the movie "ccOverview.mov". And then change the title of the movie to cChairOverV.mov. DONE
4. Add as b-roll footage to the movie with Ernesto on sketching and drawing from around 1:25 from movie cChair7a.mov. lower priority
5. Recover footage so that you can create a new parOverV.mov.
6. Redo the woodieFl.mov and drop the questions at the end of the film.

May 10, 2004
ccMateriais.mov
Change title to Materials for the Cardboard Chair Challenge
dsgnProc.mov
Needs watermark and timecode counter.
usFirst.mov
Change first title to read "Today, nearly a thousand teams..." I also want interviews with First engineers to be included, esp the guy from Boeing, and another from St Louis, and some interviews with teams that attended the finals.
introSTW.mov
1. Change title to stwOverV.mov
2. Move first title from 0:58 to right after the slate disappears. Have the title read: Overview and Design Criteria for Stuff That Works! (Center the title)
3. 5:00 Change title to Stuff That Works!: Pedagogy
We need B-ROLL of students playing in a playground or park, a classroom, and a cafeteria. (Center the title)

February 2004
brookTch.mov 0:53 Add colored background to Principal's name. 1:13 Take out subtitle with name of the course. 2:16 Add colored background to subtitle telling where Ed was giving the talk. END Add 10 more frames to end of this movie so that it has time to render the final text-based questions. -DONE
Canopy First fast shot is replaced by a slow motion of another drop. Do slow motion of the first, fast shot. Add more cases to this movie from Toni Laman's class.
ccOrtho.mov Change title so that it has drop shadow. -DONE
Chan's Garden Include from original collection at 12:23 and after a good pan of the garden, including a good zoom in on the mirror. Include the context at 14:03 of the waterfall being his birthday gift from his children.
cChair1aMake title same as cChair1b - they look different to me. Title should now read: "Investigating Paper as a Building Material: Paper Under Tension" -DONE
cChair1b"Investigating Paper as a Building Material: Paper Under Compression" -DONE
cChair2b 0:01 Do not start background audio until 0:03;05 – this will allow user to read title. -DONE
cChair4a Needs to be compiled and completed.
ccOrtho Create a blank so that the video is not visible at the following points: 0:24, 0:37, 0:51. Improve the transition at 1:14.
collapsePar.movMove the first 2 examples from this movie to inflation.mov, and then bring in a few cases from Toni's class over where oscillating leads to collapsing the chute.
designInq Include interviews with Earl Carlyon on this topic. Make less Goldman-centric.
edTran and EarlTran Make the title of earlTran exactly like edTran except for Tech Ed/Sci info. This means moving the location as well as small changes in lettering.
gender 2:58 Put background color behind Ed's name and location of his talk. Include Yasmin Kafai interview pieces in this movie.
howChairWk Improve transition to David Gordon Wilson, and put nametag identifying his name, and MIT, Mechanical Engineering. -DONE
IntroLBD Change opening graphic so that it is not identical to the introPar movie. Add more footage for other LBD activities, include basic steps in pedagogy, and show the image of the LBD Cycle.
parOverV Find original footage for this sequence and overlay new timecode onto the track so that it goes in sequential order.
realEval 0:00 Change title to "Searching For Authentic Assessment". Add footage of some questions that judges asked students, and clean up some of the existing footage with discuss of Ed, Gary and Mike.
tapeClass 0:00 Use still at end of sequence for the beginning as well. Add the VO about listening to sequencest to live footage of Toni after 1:21, accompanied by the narration. 2:12 Put white background above letter so that the dark band disapppears.
TDay1 Change movie title to: Presenting Challenges & First Demonstration -DONE
TDay3 0:28 - The subtitle changes after one second. Pick the second message and have it be the only message. -DONE
tDay7 Change second half of title to read "...Teaching - Day 7"-DONE
trailer Do voiceover, move Chan to earlier part of story, take out bunny shot, and perhaps add title about cases.
tDesgner Make sure that 4:59- from challPhyS (Sadler interview) is included in this "Science teachers are designers..." Include Nancy interview.
Vents Created an edited version of howParW that only addresses Vents, and then call it vents.mov.
Update Phil Sadler to include Nancy IN5 (standards and storyboards)

Collect scattered Theme pieces
New DITC splash
"how to" interface

1.3.04
8. Find the latest version of cc4a – instructions on starting the Quarter-Scale model task. I don't know where this footage has ended up.
9. Help with edits on the new Quarter-Scale movie (4a) and new Mike Ryan sequences.

12.21.03 introLBD
1. Timecode is screwed up, and the content is broken up near the end.

cChair3b
I see little change here. I wanted to get the pan of all of the students' index card chairs that were in the back of the classroom – it's at the end of one tape. I also would like a closeup of the board drawings showing up in cChair3a. We need direct interviews with kids talking about their chairs without Ed. Look to the end of the logs for G100 and G101, which have not been captured, for some footage.

12.6.03
parOverV – we need to coordinate changes between this can with the introLBD that needs to be longer.
ALL - Get the original footage so that you can show the correct timecode time and also put a darker background for text (Al B's suggestion). Then, clean up all transitions, which I did not attempt to do very carefully (e.g., 2:39, where the subtitles last longer than the swipe transition).
2:00 Put subtitle for student's answer
2:05 Use 36 point font here.
2:42-2:48 Perhaps drop Ss explanation of area – I'd like to quicken the pace here and elsewhere to achieve a rapid succession of cuts so that the movie gets reduced to 6-8 minutes. Give me your opinion on this.
2:55-2:59 Subtitles for girl's response.
3:22 Ends a bit early.
3:48 The wise-cracking student with #44 might be cut. I'd like the 3:42-3:56 shorted just a bit, might be that one question-response scene.
4:01 Since this is Janet's first appearance, and the beginning does not stand well on its own, I think we need to move the chunk 4:00-4:31 over to introLBD. Al suggested that Janet's description have B-roll and cuts to scenes to illustrate what she is talking about.
4:55 The section with Earl's students presenting needs to be shortened significantly. Raise audio or use subtitle.
5:35 Just show highlights of RofT presentations
6:02 Keep the graph, but shorten earlier
6:22 Subtitle what the boy says during discussion
6:15-6:24 Whiteboarding here should join the earlier example with Bridget.
5:44 Have title read, Day of Reckoning: Testing Students' Best Parachutes Outdoors and Indoors
5:44 Include more of Bridget's intro, when she is outside and the kids are gathered around her. Then show the yellow marking the top of the fence.
6:16 Ed's sequence needs some work. Try to start with drops taken with camera 2, off to the side, to show students and Ed. The drops you've chosen do not have Ed doing as much commentary, just noting some general liking of the parachute and the time. I understand using 6:11-6:17 to introduce Ed's group, but I think having more engaging drops, drops where there is an audience reaction (like with the black kid's or Chris' chutes). Temporally, break up Chris' 2 drops.
7:28 Show the chute falling the lands on the pole.
9:36 Change title at end of sequence to reflect new title, change to a different still for the background, and put new date.

Bryan To Do 12.5.03
yourVideo.movFinish the draft of the movie on shooting your own video.
useDITC.movWork with me in doing the voiceover for the interface movie.
collapsePar is DONE
cChair2a is DONE – I did edits on subtitle display
parOverV – we need to coordinate changes between this can introLBD
0:04 No period at end of title.
0:07-0:26 Probably don't want this here, but in introLBD
1:14 Insert Earl's demo drops here.
1:17 Drop Bridget's intro, but keep her kids' work. I think we might want her intro to the outdoor drop.
1:32 Put a dark background for text (Al B's suggestion)
1:43 Drop period from title
2:00 Put subtitle for student's answer
2:05 Use 36 point font here.
NOTE: Somehow, I'd like to show that teachers can compare videos, like "Compare Two Teachers' Discussions of Design Variables" (perhaps drop "Two Teachers")
4:55 Does audio need to be increased – if needed but not possible, please subtitle. This RofT talk seems long – we should try to drop 2-3 minutes from this overview.
5:35 Just show highlights of RofT presentations
6:02 Keep the graph, but shorten earlier
6:22 Subtitle what the boy says during discussion
6:15-6:24 Whiteboarding here should join the earlier example with Bridget.
6:26 Have title read "Final Parachute Drops: Outdoors and Indoors
6:28 Include more of Bridget's intro, when she is outside and the kids are gathered around her. Then show the yellow marking the top of the fence.
7:22 Break up winner's 2 drops.
7:54 Don't show this drop in the first case if it was used earlier.
9:36 Change title to Introduction to the Model Parachute Challenge, change date.

11.27.03
A. controlVarRecapture footage so that middlee is not offiline - Scene 2 Get the following from earlGalW: 1:42-2:11, 2:28-3:27

11.24.03
3. collapsePar v2 A. Double timecodes at around 0:30. B. Drop white frames.

10.25.03 bakSoda1c
Add the following to the beginning of the clip
Clip 1 0:10 – 0:30 Start with “Two kids discovered…” End with “… discovery.”
Clip 2 0:34 – 0:41 Start with “We can see…” End clip before Nancy says “We can see that…” and then has to stop to silence a student with her stare.
Clip 3 0:44 – 0:48 Start with “We can see…”End with “Try it.”

10.2.03 chanAnal - 10.1.03
Opening: Perhaps put still from this movie at 1:05, with Chan showing a "thought balloon" and inside the balloon a scene of him cutting hair. Easy way to make thought balloon is with Inspiration program on the OfficeMac machine.
