Process Spring 2002 Overall Course Objectives
The overall course objectives are
- To reinforce modeling concepts from earlier courses, with a particular emphasis on dynamic modeling
- To understand the concept of stability in dynamic systems
- To introduce the main concepts of feedback control systems
- To introduce the main hardware elements of control systems and their models.
- To produce conceptual designs of feedback control loops.
- To develop the skill to tune feedback control loops.
- To introduce some aspects of advanced control systems, such as cascade control, feedforward control, model control and model predictive control.
These objectives will be supported by three distinct activities.
- Labs, which will allow students to manipulate some of the hardware associated with process control systems.
- Project, this will be done in Matlab and will allow students to carry out a complete feedback loop development for a simple process, from the modeling through to the testing of the control loop.
- Lecture&Homework, these components will provide the language and specific knowledge necessary to achieve the above objectives and will support both the Lab and Project activities.
