Brooke Foucault

Hi, everyone! I've just been admitted to the HCC PhD program and I'm super excited to visit Atlanta and meet everyone next week.

A bit about me ... my name is Brooke and I live with my husband in Portland, Oregon. I'm a design researcher for Intel's Digital Home group where my job is to study people and their everyday lives in order to come up with ideas for new Intel products. What that means is that I spend a lot of time on airplanes and a lot of time sitting in living rooms all over the world talking with people that I've just met. It's really a ton of fun if you can get over being jet-lagged all the time!

For my PhD, I'm hoping to study issues around gender, aging, and technology. I'm really interested in how older people, especially older women, develop and maintain social networks and how new living arrangements (like retirement communities, nursing homes, etc.) influence the way older people interact with one another and with their communities. I think there are great opportunities for technology to facilitate healthy and meaningful interactions among older people and between older and younger people.

See you soon!
