This hands on workshop will feature the new Lego EV3 Robotics system and a new curriculum for the NXT robotics system. Teachers will explore new building plans available at http://robotsquare.com/2013/10/01/education-ev3-45544-instruction/ and build an EV3 robot to explore computational ideas such as sequential execution, iteration, conditionals, defining functions, and event handling rough sensors. The new EV3 drag and drop programming software will be utilized during this workshop.
We will also examine the Artbotics curriculum and activities (http://artbotics.cs.uml.edu/index.php?n=Programs.LegoMindstorms) using the LEGO NXT robots. The Artbotics curriculum seeks to develop computational thinking through the creation of robot generated artwork. This unique curriculum provides an additional avenue of motivation for students to apply their building and programming skills with robotics.
