Ms. Crystal Furman will lead this workshop which will cover the GridWorld case study, recursion, and advanced object-oriented concepts. Crystal has been teaching AP CS A for 4 years and has also been a reader for 2 years. This event will be held in Klaus Advanced Computing Building, Room #2456 from 8:30am - 4:00pm. Teachers must attend the entire workshop, do 2 hours of extra work, and show off their work during a webinar on Dec 6th, 2011 from 8:00pm - 9:00pm to get credit.
This workshop is only for teachers who are currently teaching AP CS A or who will be teaching it in the spring. It will help you prepare your students for the AP CS A exam. Teachers will gain hands-on experience with GridWorld. They will do exercises on recursion and advanced object-oriented concepts. They will learn about resources that they can use to help prepare their students for the exam. All teachers must register at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/APCSA. Georgia public high school teachers must also register at http://www.ctaern.org for workshop CTAERN3348 (new catalog).
This workshop is free for Georgia teachers. Thanks to our National Science Foundation grants we can also pay for the hotel for Friday night (2 teachers per room), Friday night dinner, and Saturday breakfast if you are a Georgia teacher who lives more than 30 miles from Georgia Tech. If you would prefer a private room you can pay 1/2 the hotel cost. We do not cover alcohol or room service! We will cover parking for Georgia teachers who stay at the hotel and reimburse parking for Georgia teachers who do not stay at the hotel. We will pay for lunch for all teachers. Space is limited to 30.
Please bring a laptop if you have one, or notify us if you need to borrow a laptop.

After completing this workshop teachers will be able to:
•Know where to find resources that will help prepare students for the AP CS A exam
•Have a better understanding of recursion and how to find example recursion problems
•How to prepare your students for the free response questions
•Know how to use GridWorld and how to integrate it into your course
•Have a beter understanding of the type of OO questions asked on the exam
