Interview Tips for the unemployed IT workers
We are currently recruiting the unemployed IT workers now and will select the first 10 participants by the end of Nov 2009. Any unemployed IT workers who wish to apply should send an e-mail to Felicia Auzla Brewster (fauzla@cc.gatech.edu). You must be unemployed to be considered for the program! You must also have some programming experience. You do not have to have a computer science degree, but you must have at least a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with at least a 2.5 average. As you can not get an initial teaching certificate in Georgia in computing, you must become certified in some other field such as math, science, business, history, etc. A large percentage of the teachers in Geogia are at retirement age, but have not yet retired. Math and science teachers are particularly needed. See steps 1-4 at http://www.gapsc.com/EducatorPreparation/GaTapp/requirements/requirements_home.asp for more information as to the requirements. You do not have to get a job with a local school (step 5). You do need to obtain a Georgia Criminal History Report (step 6). You don't need to contact a program provider for program participation information (step 7).
The next test date for the GACE basic skills test or the content assessments is Oct 17, 2009 but registration closes Oct 9th, 2009. See http://www.gace.nesinc.com/GA4_testdates.asp. There are preparation materials for all the GACE tests at http://www.gace.nesinc.com/GA_preparationmaterials.asp
We will be training the unemployed IT workers in Dec 2009 and we will place our first IT workers in the classroom in Jan 2010. They will co-teach two computing courses during spring 2010 and fall 2010. They will also student teach for at least 3 weeks a semester in a course that is in the field they are being certified for, if they are getting an initial certification in a field other than business (such as math). The IT workers will continue in the GaTAPP program until they earn their initial teaching certification. They have up to 3 years to finish their initial certification through GaTAPP. They will also be earning a CS endorsement.
We will be recruiting the next cohort of ten IT workers during the spring of 2010 and they will receive the required training in July 2010. They will be co-teaching fall 2010 and spring 2011.
The final cohort of ten IT workers will be recruited in the spring of 2011 and will receive the required training in July 2011. They will be co-teaching fall 2011 and spring 2012.
