More on Reconceiving Education as Art
One of the more controversial essays that I've posted was Reconceiving Education as Art which posited the view of education as being more art-like than science-like. I've recieved many email messages about it over the years since I posted it.
The most compelling response was from Amy Bruckman (http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~asb/) who pointed out that artists don't necessarily know how to evaluate, either. Artistic evaluations can be bitter, even scathing experiences with individuals protecting their own interests. While artists may recognize issues that science doesn't, it's not clear that artists know any better how to evaluate these things.
