Milestone 8-User Interface Evaluation
Important Advice for M8
It is essential not to underestimate the importance of M8. At first, it may seem like
writing a nice easy story or essay on the UI you are asked to evaluate. However, the
assignment is actually a lot more significant. It is an inherent part of the effective
design process that lies at the core of this course. No wonder, it counts as 7% of
the grade.
We used the Cognitive Walkthrough Plan to evaluate the assigned UI.
The Cognitive Walkthrough Plan evaluates a design for ease of learning
especially via exploration
The basic steps involved in the plan are:
Define inputs
Define user goals and interaction tasks
Identify users
( in terms of knowledge & experience )
Prototype-
Decompose tasks into action sequences.
You must know how interface looks for each step
Walk through action sequences for task
Address each step of task sequence in turn
Record critical information
Formulate a Believability story that answers the following 4 questions:
Will the user be trying to produce whatever effect the action has?
Will the user be able to notice that the correct action is available?
Once the user finds the correct action at the interface, will he know that it is the right one for the effect he is trying to produce?
After the action is taken, will the user understand the feedback given?
Our score: 82/100. This was our lowest score for the entire project.
What We Did Wrong
1>Used a rating scale with the Cognitive Walkthrough plan.
2>Did not list the exact UI tasks for each step in the plan execution stage.
3>Listed the steps in the Usability Report.
4>Missing Believability Theory.
