Discussion 3 - Manini Patel
In detail, describe a feature of Squeak that you have found particularly useful. What is the feature? Why is it useful? How do you envoke it?
The Supplies menu available in Squeak is useful. It is a source of many basic type of objects. It is helpful in learning properties of useful objects like button, textbox, rectangle, eclipse, star, etc. User can drag and drop the objects from Supplies menu to the screen.
For example, we will talk about the Button here. By doing Alt + click on the Button, the Button menu will pop up which contains very useful Button properties like inspect morph, explore morph, viewer for Morph, etc. I am mainly interested in inspect morph since by clicking it the menu with that Button properties opens up. The properties are built in methods of SimpleButtonMorph. By making an instance of SimpleButtonMorph in the class, user can use all the built in methods for a button.
The image below explains the above steps.
Find two posts that you think are useful. Link to them on your original page and explain why you found them particularly useful.
Discussion 3 - Brad Sickles
I agreed to Brad that the lack of documentation and tutorials is a problem. After doing programming in java it was hard for me to start coding in Squeak without any kind of documentation. It requires lot of playing around and trying out stuff, which takes a lot of time. I wanted to put an image on the button and it took me almost a whole day to figure out how to do that. After practice you can figure out a way to find and use the built in methods given in Squeak.
Discussion 3-Nicholas Beckmann
I agreed to Nicholas that the workspace in Squeak is very useful. It's not only useful to me but I think it is useful to anyone who is using Squeak. Since Squeak doesn't have tutorials or documentation it's always good to try out things first in workspace. It helped me a lot in figuring out built in methods. I used workspace a lot in figuring out how to put an image on the button.
