Matr1x Daily: A Guided Tour
Thanks for visiting Matr1x Daily
Our group has worked 3 months (on and off) on the project of building a customizable daily newspaper.
The Group Members are:
Manirith Nuth (Tank)
Amirali Raiyani (Morpheous)
Haris Delalic (Neo)
Tank's main responsibility was to develop a user interface both for the web and the desktop version.
Morpheous dealt with saving and displaying the newspaper both on the monitor, as html and as postscript.
Neo had the great honor of memorizing html code for all the sites on the web, in order to be able to successfully parse them.
We worked in a very productive and fun atmosphere. We stayed in touch using instant messaging and exchanged all documents using our private matr1x site.
The product we have developed is a very flexible newspaper, designed for easy maintenance and easy changes. We were able to add additional sites to the project in a matter of 15 minutes by changing only one class.
Case studies of each of the last four milestones can be found here.
Here is a screenshot of the start-up user interface:

After clicking on Choose News Sources above, a window like this pops up:

Here, the user makes his/her choices about which sites would he/she like to include in the newspaper. Also, a choice of preferred news category is made, and by pressing Save, the choices are saved to a file.
By, then, pressing Generate Newspaper, the action of making a newspaper starts. In a matter of few minutes, a newspaper like this shows up on user's screen:

Easy navigation is just one of many features of Matr1x Daily.
If the newspaper is being served on the web, it will look something like this:
Matr1x Daily - Web version
That would be the core of the Matr1x Daily project.
Should you decide that you like it, feel free to download it and play with it.
