Relevant Reading

Run across something interesting that others might want to read? List it here! (see also Books, for stuff that doesn't have anything to do with the class except that it has to do with its members. Which means that it does have something to do with the class, but hopefully the difference is clear.)

The Smalltalk-76 Programming System: Design and Implementation – an article about Smalltalk by Dan Ingalls, one of the main implementors of the original Smalltalks. This is a nice read because it's written before "OO" was extremely popular – it explains OO from first principles, to people who haven't necessarily bought into the idea yet.

A Laboratory For Teaching Object-Oriented Thinking by Kent Beck and Ward Cunningham. Introduces CRC cards, an analysis tool recomended in this class.

Interview with Alan Kay about the Dynabook http://www.honco.net/os/kay.html

The original SUnit paper:

a Wiki page on tools like SUnit:

A nice history of Smalltalk can be found in the assortment of books at this site... free smalltalk books!
