| We have a better fit this semester than we did in the Spring, and in general, we try to have the assignments close to the lectures. This time of the year is hard, though. We don't spend much time on movies, but I think it's worthwhile to build ONE. I don't really plan on having people do much programming in functional and object-oriented contexts, so there won't be any assignments directly related to this stretch of the class. The last assignment is meant to draw on several topics, so it will of course be separated from the actual lecture topics. And finally, having to go back and think it through again will actually lead to better learning – yes, the assignment is harder then, but you'll learn the content better and for longer because you'll have to reconstruct it for yourselves. And in the end, my job is to help you to learn, not get through the assignments more easily. Mark Guzdial |
