Important Clarification for HW3: The students must take in a directory to their function. TAs will also setMediaPath() from the command line in case the students want to use getMediaPath() for writing the frames. The students must not use setMediaPath() in their code. Thanks! Brittany Duncan

Does anyone know the average for test 2?
If grades aren't curved, why does it matter?

For Section A the average was 75%, which is approximately what we aim for in writing a test (a middle C is, after all, supposed to be average). If you did worse than in test 1 that's not necessarily a cause for alarm; test 1 was very early in the semester and was therefore very straightforward. We covered more material on test 2, and it was more complex. I can't comment on Test B, as I didn't stay for all of the grading. (There was, after all, a baseball game to watch on Friday afternoon!) Anyway, as a note to anyone concerned about the test, remember, the tests only count for 10% a piece, and all the tests, along with the final, total, only count for 50% of your grade. The rest is made up of the homeworks and labs and pop quizzes. Student5493

We don't give you a hard time if you take until the homework is due to turn it in. Please show our TAs the same courtesy. So when will the lab be posted? I was hoping to start it today but it isn't up.

This is ridiculous! You guys can't expect us to have things done so soon when we JUST had a test friday and now we don't even the have the weekend to work on our lab. I personally have 3 papers due, 2 quizzes, and a test this week and I don't even have the weekend to work on my lab. I just don't understand how the TA's get upset if we pressure them for grades, and yet we are now going to be pressed to get a lab turned in.

Coupla things, first, you think you've got it bad? You should listen to -me- when I list off the stuff I have to get done. :P But, that said, this lab is really not that bad. It's a lab, you use Powerpoint. It'll most likely take only an hour or two. I'd think if you had 3 papers, 2 quizzes, and a test to do sometime this week, you'd be working on/studying for those this weekend, not a lab that's due at the -end- of the week.

Now, with that out of the way, I do agree that it would have been nice to have up before now. But it really shouldn't be that major an inconvenience that it hasn't, as it really should not take you all that much time to complete. Student5493

First, I dont have a problem with it not being up yet cause its gonna be real easy, but I think that other people are mad that it isnt because we were told that it would be up by thursday night and it is sunday night and it is still not up.

Chris, I don't think the point is to compare how much work we all have to do. We're all GT students, so we all have challenging course loads. The only way to make it through here is to learn how to plan and manage our time. That's where our complaint is valid. When we are given due dates, we do our best to complete the work by that date. We just ask that when the instructors of this course say something will be posted by a certain date that they actually follow through with that. I'm sure the lab probably will only take an hour or two, but if you expect us to turn it in by a determined date, we also have the right to expect you to post it when you say you will. It is just difficult for us to be as organized and on top of things as we're expected to be when the course itself seems to be lacking organization at times.

Ok everyone, take a breath and count to ten ... then try to be polite to our TA's. Be flexible and learn to roll with the punches. I'm sure there is something more productive you could be doing than complaining

I am very sorry that I screwed up. I should have posted the lab before now, but with everything I was trying to do for the test I just forgot. There is no excuse for this and I really am sorry for the inconvenience. It is up now and not due until next Monday (the 14th). Humbly, Brittany Duncan

In a moment of brilliance (or bored lunacy, more like), I went ahead and created some code that will allow you to, essentially, replace a turtle with an image, because I had so many people asking me about it. It is -not- for the faint of heart; do not feel obligated to (or even feel I'm recommending that you should) use it. For whatever your project is, you should still see a lot of turtles in it. This is just for those who feel some compulsive need to complicate things for themselves as they experiment in finding ways to replace a turtle with another image (because you're lunatics like me). When will Test 3 and Homework 5 grades be posted?

yea, i was wondering the same about test 3. i am just confused because test 2 was graded and posted like that night, and test 3 was just multiple choice. I would think that it would be easy to grade.

Test 2 we also had an extra incentive; it was given on drop day. We wanted that grade up as quickly as possible, so students would know it before drop day was over, so they could make an informed decision on whether to drop or not. Student5493

Just so that people understand what a feat that was, it took the TAs and professors 9 hours total to grade and then I spent 3 more entering grades so that all grades would be posted by midnight. This test was easier to grade, but with everyone dealing with end of semester class work, it took a while for everyone to agree on a time. Thanks! Brittany Duncan

There were some questions on this, as well, so: If you are looking to take just a part of a sound, or otherwise manipulate it, and don't want to do that in JES, I highly recommend Audacity. It's free, open source, and runs on both Mac and Windows (and Linux too). It's pretty straightforward to use, but, if you have any questions, I can help you with it. Student5493

I second the "Andy" comment. He writes the nicest things next to our homework grades! Plus he grades the best and doesn't take 6 million points off (only a few) for dumb stuff - like when I spelled my own name wrong (friend said she got docked like 15 points for doing that once!)

Grading should be consistent. You shouldn't lose 15 points for misspelling your name. Tell your friend to talk to me and we'll figure out whether or not she deserves those points back. I am glad to hear that he writes nice comments on your homework grades though. Thanks! Brittany Duncan

The dropped quiz will be reflected in your final grade, but not on T-square. This is because of the way your grades are computed. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
