Hello everyone, welcome to CS1315. I have posted TA assignments to the Student191 page. Please e-mail me immediately if your name does not appear on this page, or if it appears more than once. This information may change, but if it does then I will send you an e-mail letting you know. This information will be important for Lab 1, which is due Wednesday, January 16th at 11:55 PM. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Important Announcement: Test dates for this course will be: January 28th, February 29th, and April 4th. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Please use the bubble for constructive comments and questions. Student5493
All test grades are posted. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
If you need to take the make-up exam, please meet me in Klaus 1202 on Thursday at 11 AM. Please bring a copy of the e-mail from your professor allowing you to take the make-up and any documentation that they requested. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Before you post to any of the "Questions" pages, please read all the questions that have been previously posted. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Instructions are now available for the Word lab for 2007 users: Word Lab Office 2007. Student5501
Important Clarification for HW3: The students must take in a directory to their function. TAs will also setMediaPath() from the command line in case the students want to use getMediaPath() for writing the frames. The students must not use setMediaPath() in their code. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
EXTRA OFFICE HOURS: I will be in the Coc commons tomorrow (Sunday) from 11am-2pm. If you need help with hw, you can come then but please email and let me know if you are coming. Also, you will need a buzzcard to get in the building. - Bobby Mathew

| Congrats to the baseball team! 3-0! | Make that 4-0! |
Someone has. You can also always e-mail me to inquire about grades. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
GT Baseball 5-0!! Good luck against Rutgers this weekend!
Lie. Also, there are two Davids Duncan in this class. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
In case you didn't know, today is Drop Day. Test grades are posted now, you can find them on T-square. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
For Section A the average was 75%, which is approximately what we aim for in writing a test (a middle C is, after all, supposed to be average). If you did worse than in test 1 that's not necessarily a cause for alarm; test 1 was very early in the semester and was therefore very straightforward. We covered more material on test 2, and it was more complex. I can't comment on Test B, as I didn't stay for all of the grading. (There was, after all, a baseball game to watch on Friday afternoon!) Colin Potts
Is -that- why you ran out on us... Anyway, as a note to anyone concerned about the test, remember, the tests only count for 10% a piece, and all the tests, along with the final, total, only count for 50% of your grade. The rest is made up of the homeworks and labs and pop quizzes. Student5493
CORRECTION: That should be Section B, not A! And the average is closer to 76% Colin Potts
Attention students who missed the exam Friday: The make-up exam will be on Tuesday from 11 AM to noon in room 3402 of Klaus. Please bring any documentation, as well as any e-mail correspondence from your professor to the exam in order for it to be graded. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Homework and Lab due dates are posted for the rest of the semester have been posted to the Assignments page, please plan accordingly. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
We don't give you a hard time if you take until the homework is due to turn it in. Please show our TAs the same courtesy. If you have a problem with a specific TA grading on time, then please let me know. Remember that TAs are students too, they have their own assignments to work on in addition to grading yours and helping you in this class. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Make sure that you are aware of the Collaboration Policy and that your homework assignments are in compliance. The penalty for no collaboration statement is a 0 on the assignment. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
For those who haven't checked T-square, nor their email, nor the assignments page, HW4's deadline has been extended. So, yay for that. Student5493
All makeup exam grades have been posted. Please let me know if yours is not up. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
My office hours for Thursday are canceled. Please visit another ta or email me if you need help with hw. - Bobby Mathew
Good morning! My "9-11" extended office hours are more likely 9:15-11. Thanks! Colin Potts
The review has been updated with a few examples. Check it out before the review session if possible, so that you can ask questions. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
The Powerpoint lab will be due the Friday after the exam (April 11th) and will be posted later tonight. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Coupla things, first, you think you've got it bad? You should listen to -me- when I list off the stuff I have to get done. :P But, that said, this lab is really not that bad. It's a lab, you use Powerpoint. It'll most likely take only an hour or two. I'd think if you had 3 papers, 2 quizzes, and a test to do sometime this week, you'd be working on/studying for those this weekend, not a lab that's due at the -end- of the week. Now, with that out of the way, I do agree that it would have been nice to have up before now. But it really shouldn't be that major an inconvenience that it hasn't, as it really should not take you all that much time to complete. Student5493
I am very sorry that I screwed up. I should have posted the lab before now, but with everything I was trying to do for the test I just forgot. There is no excuse for this and I really am sorry for the inconvenience. It is up now and not due until next Monday (the 14th). Humbly, Brittany Duncan
You too can be a turtle. Just hold down and back until you see an opening. (Yes, that's a horrible gamer joke). Student5493
In a moment of brilliance (or bored lunacy, more like), I went ahead and created some code that will allow you to, essentially, replace a turtle with an image, because I had so many people asking me about it. It is -not- for the faint of heart; do not feel obligated to (or even feel I'm recommending that you should) use it. For whatever your project is, you should still see a lot of turtles in it. This is just for those who feel some compulsive need to complicate things for themselves as they experiment in finding ways to replace a turtle with another image (because you're lunatics like me). You can find the code in the TA Corner Student5493
While on topic of FAQs, if you want to use a sound that isn't in the correct format (WAV), you can use this to convert it online - http://media-convert.com/ Student5493
Test 2 we also had an extra incentive; it was given on drop day. We wanted that grade up as quickly as possible, so students would know it before drop day was over, so they could make an informed decision on whether to drop or not. Student5493
Just so that people understand what a feat that was, it took the TAs and professors 9 hours total to grade and then I spent 3 more entering grades so that all grades would be posted by midnight. This test was easier to grade, but with everyone dealing with end of semester class work, it took a while for everyone to agree on a time. Thanks! Brittany Duncan

Test 3 is up now. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Well, media even without computing sounds 50% relevant to me!..... Colin Potts
There were some questions on this, as well, so: If you are looking to take just a part of a sound, or otherwise manipulate it, and don't want to do that in JES, I highly recommend Audacity. It's free, open source, and runs on both Mac and Windows (and Linux too). It's pretty straightforward to use, but, if you have any questions, I can help you with it. Student5493
All Test 3 grades (including make-up exams) have been posted to T-square. Please e-mail me if you don't have a grade posted and you took the exam. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
They should be up. Please e-mail me with the name of your TA. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Sweet!
Grading should be consistent. You shouldn't lose 15 points for misspelling your name. Tell your friend to talk to me and we'll figure out whether or not she deserves those points back. I am glad to hear that he writes nice comments on your homework grades though. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
Thanks! Brittany Duncan

I'm terribly sorry. How can we make it better? Thanks! Brittany Duncan
We have a comments page for comments. We welcome constructive comments, take them seriously and wherever possible act on them. You don't need to use capital letters here to be heard. Colin Potts
On this note, I'm going to create an anonymous TA Feedback REMOVED. Please be sure that your feedback is constructive and not mean-spirited, but we would like to know ways in which our TAs can improve, as well as areas in which they are succeeding. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
What did the Python ever do to you? Thanks! Brittany Duncan
As I requested before: If you have a grading issue, please e-mail me and do not post to the Bubble. Thanks! Brittany Duncan

The dropped quiz will be reflected in your final grade, but not on T-square. This is because of the way your grades are computed. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
If you are taking the exam on Tuesday and you are in Colin's class, that is correct. If you are taking the exam on Tuesday and are in Monica's class, you will be in Klaus 1447. If you are taking the exam on Friday and you are in Monica's class, that is correct. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
