Lab 5 Questions Fall 2007

I have completed the lab, but I cannot save the chart and the Excel file together. When I try to save it as "StockInfo.xls" I am getting a warning that says "The selected file type does not support workbooks that contain multiple sheets. To save only the active sheet, click OK. To save all sheets, save them individually using a different filename for each, or use choose a file type that supports multiple sheets." Can I turn it in as seperate files?


If I'm am using Excel 2007, should I save it with Excel 97-2003 functionality?

When doing the error bars, I can't select the G & H columns when I'm in the custom thing. It's really weird, it just shrinks the box. How do I input the columns?
Nevermind! I figured it out!

is there any difference if we use "numbers" with a mac? .. or must i use excel?
You must use Excel. It is in the instructions. If you choose to use another program, you must ensure that it will still open and meet the criteria in Excel. Thanks! Brittany Duncan
You could always do the assignment on a library computer, as I'm pretty sure they have Excel. You might want to look into getting Excel though, there's a version for Mac users (It's what I use).

This may be a dumb question, but for some reason I can't figure out how to save the chart and the information all together. My computer keeps saving only the chart information. Because we made the chart in a seperate worksheet, I don't know how to join them as one file!
Even though it's a separate sheet, it should still be part of the same file, just on the second page...

Where should we put our name and collaboration statement?
You don't have to include one. If you do, you can put it anywhere that it does not mess up your formatting. Thanks! Brittany Duncan

I have Excel 2007 and I'm having a lot of difficulty with the lab directions because I don't have the same menu options. Also, more specifically I'm having trouble selecting the G& H columns when im doing the custom error bars. How do you do this in excel 2007?
hey who ever asked the G & H columns thing how did you figure it out?
alright i figured it out. bring your chart back to where it is on the same page as your data. then go to the special values tab next to custom. then with you cursor in the positive tab click the g column then with your cursor in the negatives tab click the h column and it puts the values in for you

im confused the final thing we are suppose to do is add a second condition to column I but then it tells us to make it bold and black? what does that mean? set up my own condition or set up a bold and black condition?
The first condition is to make certain values red and bold and the second condition is to make the other values black (default text color) and black...what exactly are you asking?
for the graphing part of this lab, it says to save the graph in it's own workbook, aka "As New Sheet"...I'm using excel 2007 and i have no idea what to do here....help?? thanks!

so for the percent change, since it's the (current day-previous day)/previous day should we just have a blank cell for the first one?
That would be my guess, as the instruction couldn't logically apply to the first value

I don't understand what "motion above" means. Is motion below going to be the abs(open-low) ?????
Is it ok if I simply insert a page break after my data so that it's easier to save everything as one file instead of making it on its own page?

I cant see the picture that shows how it would look after opening the disneyprice file on the excel,,,

Should cell I67 be -100.00% because there is no E68 value?

Do you mean make the cell red or the actual text red?
It means the text is supposed to be red
I'm not sure what the error bars are supposed to look like. I think I followed the directions correctly, but I don't really see a change in my graph.
when we type in ABS(E2-C2), should it immediately compute that into a number that shows instead of what we originally typed in? I might be confusing this with something I have done in the past.
Nevermind! I was missing the =. Duh.
I've done the assignment like three times now because it is not saving my graph and is only saving certain information. I'm not sure why, but maybe because we chose text delimited. What is .xls exactly because it is saying choose a saving option that will save everything not just the text portion??

On the step in which we're supposed to copy the Motion Above and Below formulas all the way down the graph and they're just supposed to automatically format themselves for the particular row they're in, mine doesn't seem to be working. They all just say ABS(E2-C2) regardless of what cell they are actually in.
I can't access "Selected data Series". When I click on a point and go to format all I see is "format data point" or "format trendline", which doesn't help me get to the error bars. Any suggestions?

Im having a little trouble trying to figure out how to do the Custom Error Bars procedure. I have Excel 2007. Specifically, the part where it says
6.Select Custom
7. First we will choose the values above. By the custom selection there is a box that is labeled with a +. Beside that, there is a button that will allow you to select a range of values. Press the button.
8. Select column G.
9. Press Enter.
10.Beside Custom there is also an area labeled -. It too has a button that will allow you to select a range. Press it.
11. Select column H
Excel 2007 doesn't have any feature such as "Custom" once you click "values". Also,there seems to be no way to select "Column G/H".
One more thing, I attempted to make the error bars with the information given to me and are the small lines supposed to going up and down or left to right?

For Excel 2007...
Using columns G & H for the error bars creates a compatability issue. Should I submit it as it is anyways?
Also, there are horizontal lines on my points on my chart. Is this an issue?

in my column G, Column H, and Column I, i do not have actualt numbers in each of the cells after writing the formula. For example, it says in column G ABS (E2-C2). should it automatically calulcate and give me numbers in the cell instead?

The chart doesn't show up if you make it in 2007 but save as 97-03. Are there some TAs who can open an 07 file because I know it is going to get screwed up during conversion.

What is the motion below the close? Close-Low? or Open-High?

I believe there is an error with the formula for the "I" column. The formula given would be for cell I3; I2 should have N/A for it's amount...


Im having the same problem that others asked about before, but u havent posted a response. When i copy the formula for motion above and below to all the cells below, it is not auto formating to use the new cell numbers, they all just say the old cell numbers

It's not really covered in the directions, though. They just say that the cells should be updated automatically. And I'm still can't figure out why the formula doesn't solve itself, so I still have just the formula instead of a number.

Where are we supposed to turn this in on T-Square? There isn't an option to submit it under "Assignments".
