Announcements-Fall 2005

November 8

Regarding midterm 2, the professors have decided that question 5b was a bit too ambiguous. It was pointed out that the question could easily be interpreted to refer to frame number 29, or the 29th frame (frame number 28). If you lost three points because of this ambiguity, please bring your test to your TA and they will give you the points back. Sorry for the confusion! – Matt Britt

There was a slight mix up in assigning grades for pop quiz 3. If you took the quiz, you will notice that you now have a 0 for quiz 3. This is not your official grade and it will be adjusted after Quiz 3 is given. Do not worry about it. There's no need to email anyone about it. If after quiz 3 is graded, your grade is still in error, that is the time to contact us. Student1594
I'll have to cancel my office hours for this day. Keith Edwards

Now that you've learned about arrays, matrices, and lists, you might be wondering how these (and other structures) get used to create modern media. How do animators model the characters and scenes in "The Incredibles"? How do computer musicians structure whole compositions? Turns out that the answers to these questions are related to how meteorologists model the weather, how ecologists model predator-prey systems, and how historians model historical emigrations. If any of these interest you, please consider CS1316 "Representing Structure and Behavior" (http://coweb.cc.gatech.edu/cs1316). It's an introduction to modeling and simulation, with the basics of Java. (It's a great class to prepare for CS1322!) For a general overview of the class, check outhttp://coweb.cc.gatech.edu/cs1316/3. The class will be offered on-campus in Spring 2006, and on the Oxford Study Abroad program in REMOVEDmmer 2006. For more information, contact Mark Guzdial atguzdial@cc.gatech.edu.

Hello, my name is Brian Landry and I am a Doctoral student here at Georgia Tech. I am conducting a research study of a tool for creating short (5-7 minute) digital movies about personal experiences and I would like you to participate. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to create a movie about a personal experience with your own digital pictures. To take part in this study, you will need to select a personal experience you would like to share with others and bring in some digital photos you think would help illustrate the story. At the end of the study, you will have a media file you can play with a RealPlayer or QuickTime media player to share with whoever you desire. Also, as a part of the study, you will fill out two surveys and I will interview you about your experience with the tool. In addition, I will observe you as you work and periodically ask you questions. I may also contact you after the study to ask some follow-up questions. If you are interested in participating, you will need to sign a consent form outlining the purpose of the study and your rights as a participant. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you would like to participate, send email to blandry@cc.gatech.edu or call 404-385-1105. Thank you.

When trying to open a file in JES, you cannot just double click on the file. JES will not open if you do this. You must first open JES itself and then from inside JES go to file then open and then find the file you are trying to open and open it. This is just an issue with JES and nothing to be concerned about. Just remember to always open files from inside JES.Student1594

August 29th
