Lab 1



I think they just changed the OIT information security webpage, and now I can't find the protection link. I already read it yesterday, but if somebody finds it, please post it!

When I give the table tag attributes, the table format is not maintained. The table looks like a table when I don't give it attributes. I don't know what the problem is.
When i sign on with my name it does not show a create button to personalize my page


Lab 2


I am trying to download jes but it doesnt want to open on my computer what should I do because I really need toget started?
  It's hard to say what's going wrong without being able to see what you're doing. If you have a laptop, visit a TA's office hours. If not, then go to our office hours anyway and we'll walk you through it so you can try it again. A few questions: Did you extract the contents of the ZIP file? Was the icon you clicked on the executable program (the one with the picture of the snake)? Have you tried using the version on the CD instead?

After i inserted my text box it would not allow me to insert a page break and i dont know why. I couldnt even move my curser down to the end of the page. Do you know what i can do?
  There are so many versions of MS Word out there and each one has slightly different quirks. I would suggest trying to insert the page break with Ctrl+Enter first, then adding the text box and see what happens. If it doesn't work, try doing it in the library, since the version of Word they have is the version that this lab was tested with.

How is the grading done for each of the labs because if I followed the procedure neccessary to complete the lab and receive a grade that I don't think is right how can I look and see what was done wrong?
  Basically the JES portion of the lab was worth 50 points, and the M$ Word portion of the lab was worth 50 points. If you got something that was outrageously low, then check to make sure you turned in the correct files. If you really think you did everything right, then email your TA and ask to see what went wrong. If I'm your TA, I have a mountain of emails that I will address today in class (and tomorrow for those that don't come in on Tuesday (you should come to class on Tuesday, we have lots of fun)).

Lab 3



I downloaded WinSCP to upload my website to the WWW but I don't have a public_html folder. Should I create the directory or try a different program to upload my website?
  The posting to prism portion of the lab will be updated tonight. Basically, I'll just be adding steps to create a public_html folder and then setting the permissions for your gtnum folder to 0751.

My pics are huge, and I don't have photoshop to scale them down. Any ideas on how to make them smaller so that my page doesn't take forever to load?
  Open your images in mspaint. Click on Image. Click on stretch/skew. Type in some percentages. Save.

I made my pics smaller via mspaint. now, even though they are smaller... i can't see them once i put it up on prism.
i feel like throwing my computer out the window.
  Are you sure you have the correct filename?

In order to "prettify" our website, are we allowed to use html code tips on "html help" websites? (Like for stuff that hasn't even been mentioned in class.) I don't know if that's what you meant but auto-generated code.
  That's fine, in fact, I encourage that. What we mean by auto-generated code is we don't want you to write up your entire webpage in MS Word and then use the "save as HTML" option or something like that.

I uploaded the pics into my folder along with the index.html file..everything is fine, but the pictures don't show up?..can u see whats wrong with it please!!

You have most likely put tags in the wrong order, or accidentally mistyped one. Double check the syntax. Kelly Lyons

When I go to my URL it gives me a page with a links to the parent directoy, and to my html file. What have I done wrong?
To clarify that last one, it gives me an Index.
Did you name your file index.html? It needs to have this name or the URL prism.gatech..../gtnumber won't go directly to it. Kelly Lyons

for some reason, when I open win spc, the files on my computer dont show up in the left window like it says on the "how to" page. All I see is a file named "/ "
  On the toolbar above the area where the files should be listed on the left side of the screen, is a drop down menu where you can select different drives to browse. If WinSCP isn't maximized, it's kind of hard to notice it. Try using that.

I am having trouble with the hyperlink. When I veiw my lab 3 as an html file there is no clickable link where I designated one. I am typing it exactly like it states in the tutorial. Do you have any suggestions?
  If it looks exactly like the tutorial, then it should work. Please email me with your GT number

Do we need to submit the graph we create also along with the spreadsheet?
^to question above. Nevermind, it saves it already when you save as StockInfo.xls.
Just as clarification, the excel file you turn in must contain both the spreadsheet and the graph in the same file. You only need to submit one file. Kelly Lyons
Are we supposed to do something about the error that occurs in I67?

What does "Motion Below the Close" mean? Is it close - the low price?
Do we have to run ExcelLab() in JES to get the prices or can we not just open and use the txt document?

What do we do about cell I2 (e2-e1)/e1 will not work. Should we label it as 'N/A'?
It should work. Are you putting an = sign in front of it? Blake
There is no information in 'e1'. That is the top menu (the title of that column). All of row 1 is titles, so I2 cannot use the information in E1 since E1 is letters, not numbers. So what should we use there?
