Spring 2005 Soapbox

All right, here's how it started out:

Legolas Rules!

Legolas Rules! A blood sun rises, blood has been spilled this night.

Wow were you serious?

Of course not! Everyone must love Frodo!

You don't need to delete old stuff, just add new things to the bottom!

Just put an "_" and add your new message!

Do you really think everyone loves Frodo? There is that whole "hairy feet" thing ...

Why do some people find hairy feet unattractive?

Perhaps because they're too obsessed with "pointy ears". Like me.

That's weird.

Well what's so weird about it?

Pointy ears are sexy.

I like normal ears. Actually, I don't care for ears.

...so fish are sexy?

Fish? Sexy?!

Hi Pete!

I don't think fish have ears, do they?

Looking for the new textbook? Go to Engineer's Bookstore at 748 Marietta St. N.W. - they have plenty in stock. (A link to a map is under Admin - you can walk there.) Just tell them CS1315 - below is a picture of the cover!

The Due Date for Lab2 has been moved to Monday (Jan. 24) because of all the turn-in problems. They should all be fixed now, so keep trying to turn in your lab. Sorry for all the trouble.Greg Leo

The Due Date for Lab3 remains the same - Monday too!

Wow! The TA contact information lists all their office hours and AIM IDs - sweet!

font face="Verdana" size="1"Remember, if you're having trouble turning in your lab, check theJES Turnin ProblemsandCrash-n-Burn pages for help.

Please let Monica and I know if we are going too fast or too slow. Based on feedback, I am trying to include things in the lecture beyond the slides (e.g., other examples), but if that results in me going too fast or not going into enough detail, please say so! We really don't want to lose anyone. – Blair
(also, feel free to post comments, anonymous or otherwise, on the weekly comment pages. we really do read them!)
font face="Verdana" size="1"I made a slight change to the main page layout. Let me know what you think. I've also added a few more things to my section under tutorials including a week-by-week "Things you should know by now" outline with study tips.

These bubbles are getting boring. What's the biggest snowman anyone made in the "snow" last weekend? We managed a little over a foot tall ...

I agree... thanks for retaking the bubble. I didn't actually see much "snow". There was some white stuff, but it was mostly ice.

"D'OH!!"
"Why you little...!"

CS 1315 is awesome.

Booooo CS100 at UIC. Booo that professor who copied this same class outline.

Joseph Razavian, You are beautiful

I like cheese.

UIC is the worst school to ever go to. Tel your friends and family to NOT go to UIC (University of Illinois Chicago).

GO PHILLY EAGLES!!!!
FLY!!!!!!!!!!

Pats won :)

I can't make my office hours tomorrow, Tuesday Feb 8th, so I'll have them Thursday 12-1:30 at the library instead. - Nakul

when is the prequiz being posted?
"I only see prequiz 1 on the webpage, but not prequiz 2 - anyone know when that will be available?"

I'm pretty sure it's Monday...
Spending the weekend with your girlfriend is great, you guys should try it some time. Oh wait that's right.

You certainly seem very proud of yourself. Do girls like huge egos now-a-days?

Soooooooo.......

Random thought for the day: does the worm have a name? Because if he doesn't....that's just depressing.
Well lets give him one then!!!

Dude, it's not a worm - it's a snake. A python...get it?

A worm?!? You have a href="http://coweb.cc.gatech.edu:8888/uploads/cs1315/1680/JESattacks.png"angered/a the JES snake. [–such a fun image :P]

uhoh–a isnake/i? my apologies to mr., um...well, what's the snake's name then?

Wouldn't "Monty" make sense... the Python programming language was named after the British comedy group Monty Python.

~ I LOVE IT!!!

How much relief time do we get for homework.

OMG, what does == mean. And what does mean when used in an if statement.
== means Compare two values and return true if equal and false if not eqaul. means does not equal. It works the exact opposite as == (Returning true if they are not equal and false if the are equal.)Kelly Lyons

For lab 4, I posted my HTML file before it was done. Are we allowed to delete it from my CoWeb page, then reattach the newest version???
Yes. You are free to change and edit your html file until the deadline. After the deadline, you are not allowed to change it until you have a grade and are not disputing it.Kelly Lyons

Hola! Como esta usted?

bien, gracias! y es un viernes muy fabuloso, no?

私の ねこ は おいし でした。
そう ですか?
I will be available today (Sunday) in the student center by the food court from 5-7 to take HW6 questions. If you have a laptop, bring it. If not, email your code to yourself.

Je crois que ca suffit comme langues... ;)

7:00 - Everyone take a deep breath.

what for?

Just to clarify: There is a quiz tomorrow, Wednesday, Apr 20th.

Will there be anything about java script in the quiz?
No, but that'd be cool if there was.

So I was curious as to if Blake still wears that goofy yamaka looking thing made of aluminum foil during tests? If so, someone should steal it, take pictures with it, post them online, and send a ransom letter for it.
He makes a new one for every test. Ransoming will do nothing.
Yamaka? The purpose of the tin foil hat is so that you guys can't cheat off of me.
You might want to try cubenapping his Rubik's though. Greg Leo

My office hours for tomorrow (Friday) will be canceled. I am going to hold extra office hours next week to make up for this. Check my Who's Who page for specific times, or email me to set up one if you would like. Kelly Lyons

Be sure to check the final exam schedule - it is listed under the announcements. - Monica
If you've exhausted the coding problems of the official final exam review and are still looking for some example problems just to exercise your coding skills before the test, I've thrown together a page of Lots o' Sample Problems that focus exclusively on the fundamental programming concepts (strings, manipulating variables, the meaning of return, lists, loops, etc.). Note: these problems are in no way directly associated with the final, but they will help your understanding of writing code in general and how to approach coding problems.

Considering going on to CS1316? Check out the projects in the CS1316 Galleries. Please feel free to drop me a question about it! Mark Guzdial

If you need have any just-before final questions, I'll be in the west-library booths until just-before-the-final today -- #2

Final exam grades will not be posted on WebWork, however you will know your final overall grade next week on Oscar. If you have issues with the final exam/course grade, the best time to discuss them is the semester you return, not the week during/after finals. Please wait about 2-3 weeks before seeing the professor however, as they will be busy with restarting the new semester and other fun proffessor-type stuff. Alvin Yates
One class never decides HOPE. Your performance across all of your courses decides HOPE. The University is on break next week, and the professors have the right to not hold office hours during the first week of classes. Mark Guzdial
