Education

I am a second year International Affairs and Spanish Major (hoping to graduate in Spring 2004). The most enriching thing I have participated in at Georgia Tech so far has been the Language for Business and Technology Study Abroad Program for Spanish. As part of this program, I spent last summer studying for a month in Mexico City and a month in Madrid. This summer, I will be spending almost three months in South America completing the Business and Politics in Argentina and Brazil Study Abroad.

Here at Georgia Tech, I specialize within my major on Latin American Affairs. I also completed a year and half of Russian language courses. I will be studying French in fall of 2003. My current class schedule for Spring of 2003 is:

Employment

I am currently an employee of Starbucks Coffee on 14th Street, where I work between 15 and 25 hours a week. My job title is barista. I have been working there since October of 2002. I have other experience in the service industry working for a restaurant and a salon/spa. I have also worked in retail at a furniture and interior design store. In the information technology sector, I worked for a database management firm. I also volunteered for a year teaching English to Spanish-speaking adults.

Interests

Visit KINKY online

I enjoy listening and dancing to many different types of music, especially bossa nova, reggae, samba, salsa, cumbia, son, jazz, swing, and merengue. My favorite bands include the Beastie Boys, the White Stripes, the Clash, Tool, the Verve, the Chemical Brothers, and the Beatles. Some international artists that I'm currently listening to include Buena Vista Social Club (Cuba), Cafe Tacuba (Mexico), Radiohead (U.K.), and Bebel Gilberto (Brazil). One band that I especially like is KINKY from Monterrey, Mexico. KINKY currently has one CD (self-titled), which was nominated for a Grammy this past year. You can hear their music on commercials for Motorola and the TV show "Kingpin." Their music is a fusion of funk, electronica, rock, and Latin rhythms. They are also great people who are interesting to know. I will be flying to California at the end of April to see KINKY play at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
