Past Term's Mac Help

Fall 2004 Mac Help

Where do I find text box in Apple works?
You actually insert a new word-processing document to be a textbox, but why are you using AppleWorks? Office for the Mac is available and more full-featured. Mark Guzdial

I have a brand new 15" PowerBook and I installed JES off of the CD in the back of the book. It is incredibly slow and I was wondering if this is "how it is" or if there is something I need to do. It takes probably two minutes for it to start up when I open it and my whole computer pretty much freezes up. I tried downloading the updated version of the web page but after it loaded and I went to open it it wouldn't open. Josh
What processor/speed is your powerbook? what version of OS X? are you running on battery or AC power? if you start a terminal (applications -> utilities -> terminal) and type java -version(enter) what is the output? Missing Page
its a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4, OS X version 10.3.5, usually running off AC power but occasionally battery, if I type java-version in Terminal it says command not found, but I think its version 1.4.2
It's
java SPACE -version
. JES takes more time to start up the first time than it does later. It caches things the first time. But it is true, in general, than Macs are slower with Java (and thus, with Jython and JES) than Windows computers. Mark Guzdial
would adding some more memory be worth the investment
