Isn't this too much? should have been posted a long time ago.

Another question for all of you: Does it matter if I demo things or not? I think that it mattered a lot at the beginning, when you didn't really see how JES worked. Does it still matter? Do you prefer demos of things, or is it enough to show the code, talk about how it works, and show a screenshot of using it or its results? Mark Guzdial

If it is something easy or something we have already been over, I don't think we need to see a demo. But if it is a new concept, I think seeing you work it out helps.

The demo helps in any case weather it's old or new concept.

This is totally not answering your questions above, however, i would just like to know why there were points taken off of my take home exam. i thought the whole point was to make it sound like you wanted, and mine did. you told me in class that the way i got there didn't matter so i don't understand why i have points deducted.

I feel the same way. My program for the take home exam worked perfectly. I even discussed it with others, AFTER the exam, and our programs were nearly identical and they both worked perfectly, however I got a lot of points taken off. My TA said it was because I wrote the program wrong. If it worked correctly, how did I write it wrong????

The midterm review is way too long and much more complicated than the stuff we have been doing in class (and i have never missed a class) i dont feel we did enough examples in class to be able to figure out how to do the questions on the review...

Do see your TA or me if you have questions about your take home exam grading. There may have been issues with how the standards were replied, and we will address any inconsistencies. Mark Guzdial

I agree with the other person...I have had only one absence all semester, and I feel like we went from 10 to 100 mph overnight. I got a 98 on the last midterm and I predict that I'll get about a 70 on this one (that doesn't mean I've given up hopes of doing better).

Hey, okay, I must have zoned out during that part of the lecture, but is only up to what was covered on Friday before Break on the exam? That's what I thought I heard on Monday, but I'm not dead positive. Just curious.

Yes, only up to Friday before break will be on the exam. That means that IP addresses, routers, DNS are all fair game. Mark Guzdial

I agree with the people who have posted before. It seems like we're going faster. This stuff is more complicated, so it doesn't make sense to me that we'd speed up. Can we stay at the pace we had been at? Please? A lot of people are concerned about this.

Everything is really fast now and sort of confusing. Its hard to keep all of the info straight...

The complexity of what we're doing is definitely increasing. Next week (Database and HTML) won't be too bad. The video stuff the week after will feel faster than pictures, just because it's using pictures but for hundreds of frames at once. From then on out, though, it'll feel much faster. I'm going to assume that you're comfortable with the programs we've done, and will then start talking about the implications of all of this. Why is Photoshop faster than Python? Why does movie code take forever to run? Isn't there any way to make my program smaller (fewer lines), easier to write, or faster? Definitely be sure that you're comfortable with the programs in class (Remember my advice in Week One: TRY EVERYTHING YOURSELF!) because the pace will certainly feel like it's increasing. Mark Guzdial

Well if the impression is that we are understanding....i think you have been misinformed after us taking that exam just now. I feel like I havent understood one thing since the first exam now. This class seems impossible if it keeps going the way it has the past few weeks - especially with this past exam. Am I alone on this one, guys?

No. you're not alone. I agree.

i agree as well

My suggestion is to make sure that you understand what's in the midterm review so that you know it going forward. If you don't catch up now, you won't make it through the end. Do try the lecture programs at home! Bring your questions to class, to office hours, and on the CoWeb. The average score on the take home exam was 87.5, with 49 100%'s. The average score on Quiz2 was 83, with 11 100%'s. 55 people, half the class, got an A on Quiz2! These results tell me that most people are mostly getting it. If you're not, I need to know what is not being understood, and you need to come get help. Mark Guzdial

I think this exam was what blew myself and everyone I have spoken to away. Everything until this seemed doable.

I agree with that statement... we were more easily able to prepare ourselves for the quizes and the take home exam... the take home was more similar to a hw we had done than some of this test was to the review

When can we expet the test to be graded.... so I know when to check the Webworks? Thanks - Susan Holloman

We're grading on Tuesday afternoon. I hope to have the grades up by Wed., certainly by recitation on Thursday. Mark Guzdial
