The CoWeb is a shared space; the instructor and the TA's will be hanging around, but what happens here is largely up to students. Anything is open for comment–just be courteous. See the Statement on Privacy and the Statement on Acceptable Behavior for more on the policies here. Tips on using the CoWeb
What to do first?
Pick up the book from the bookstore. We'll be using the SECOND EDITION. The First Edition is 80% the same content as the second edition, but the chapters and page numbers are significantly different. You can probably get by in the class with the First Edition, but you'll have to work to figure out the corresponding readings page numbers.
Get JES installed on your computer — see instructions on the CD that comes with the book, or get it from Course Software (JES).
Wander around the CS1315 CoWeb and get an idea of what is offered here. In particular, the Syllabus and Lecture Slides-Summer 2005 page lets you know what's happening when. You are required to check this page daily.
Go to the Who's Who-Summer 2005 page and create a link for yourself. Then go to that new page and tell us about yourself (e.g., link to your homepage elsewhere, put up a picture of yourself, etc.). (Whenever you post, sign it by a link back to your Who's Who page, e.g., *Mark Guzdial* will become Mark Guzdial)
Visit the Personals page. Add a movie/restauraunt review, to try it out.
Visit the CoWeb often, especially the Announcements page. You are responsible for the contents of the Announcements page on a daily basis!.
There will be Comment pages for weekly comments, pages for questions on each assignment, and pages for exam Hotspots #3. Do participate, and read what others are asking and saying. In particular, clarifications on the assignments will often come up in the questions pages!
