Webcam Checkout Policy

Thanks to the Technology Fee, we have Logitech QuickCam Pro webcams to checkout. The idea is that you can use these to create your own images (and later, movies and maybe sound) for homework assignments.

Procedure and Policy

To get a Webcam, see your TA. Sign-out will occur through your TA. Send your TA email, and pick it up at office hours or recitation (depending on your TA's availability).

You can check out Webcams for one week. Return the Webcam to your TA.

If you do not return the Webcam (or do not return all the pieces), then we will withhold your grade until it is returned.

Software

The Webcam comes with software for Windows computers.

For Mac OS X computers, you will have to download software from elsewhere.

You can get a good, free software package that works with most Webcams that will work for still images (and sometimes movies) at http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/.
You can also get a shareware driver at http://www.ioxperts.com and shareware software at http:/www.bensoftware.com. The shareware versions will work for still images and movies up to 30 seconds long without paying. (And you don't really want to try to process movies more than 30 seconds long.)

I've used both of them with good success.
