Enjoyed the lecture this morning. Mr. Leahy was very friendly, upbeat and energetic. Not big on CS, but I think I will enjoy this class. A good introduction for my first college class.

Mr. Leahy is a very funny man. This class should be very fun and interesting.

Mr. Leahy is very entertaining. I think there no ennui should ever enter the class. I used to find many classes at Georgia Tech to be soporific, but this one is an exception.

The textbook is out of order in both B&N and Engineer`s bookstore.
It will be on stock this thursday.......

Engineer's has some. Check it.

The publisher was going to ship some to Engineer's 2nd day express. I understand that REMOVED and Noble has now ordered some, but not clear when they'll be in. Mark Guzdial

Did someone lock the "Edit" box on the Who's Who page, because it is not allowing people to add their names?

You don't need to use the edit box to add your name. Just type your name (surrounded by asterisks, to make a link to a new page) in the box at the bottom of the page and click the "add to this page" button. Student1951

I was thinking the same thing, about the who's who page. But yes the class seems like it will be fun, well minus the horrific webdesign for the coweb site. At least it does have the basic navigation on each page, and the snake/worm is cute.

yea same problem with who's who page?
help?

My gtg number isn't listed anywhere under the TA pairings. Are there more that havne't been put on the site?

The TA pairings aren't updated for Fall yet – we're still hiring TAs. The Who's Who page stays locked for the first week so that the crush of people doesn't lead to pages being accidentally deleted. Mark Guzdial

I am having a hard time getting Jes onto my computer. Any suggestions for why this isnt working?

hmmm...what operating system do you have and what exactly is the problem? Lauren Walker

If you are confused as to how to add your name to the Who's Who page, scroll down to the bottom of the Who's Who page and look for a text box, like the one at the bottom of this page. Type in your name surrounded by astericks and click the "add to this page" button. Then look on the newly updated Who's Who page for your name and a "create this page" link. Click on the link and you will be taken to your new page, complete with a new text box for you to type in. Lauren Walker

Is the CS1315 Turnin Verification REMOVED up to date? I tried to check the assignments I turned in but I couldn't find my TA. Student1920

No, the turnin site hasn't been updated yet. Mark Guzdial

whats the name of the book were supposed to get

The book is Introduction to Media Computation: A Multimedia Cookbook in Python, second edition by Mark Guzdial. Student1951

There is still no box at the bottom of my screen! What gives?

Check again. It should be there now. Student1951

As of Wed. 8/17/04 REMOVED and Noble is out of PRS units. The only thing they could tell me about getting them in was that they have a quick turnaround, and they are hoping to receive more, (maybe by Friday 8/20 or Monday 8/23) -Jacob Brooker-

what is PRS unit?

A PRS unit is basically a small remote control that you will bring to class. There are receivers in the class so when you press a button, the receiver detects it and what you pressed is recorded. These PRS units are numbered, and yours will be uniquely linked to you, so these are used for pop quizzes/attendance recording purposes. Student1594

Lauren, I am running Windows ME...is that the problem with downloading Jes on to my computer?

What exactly is it doing, or not doing for that matter? Lauren Walker

I am clicking on the Jes download, the mouse turns into a timer to show that the computer processing, but nothing happens, regardless of how long i wait.

REMOVED and Noble has the 2nd edition textbook! Yeah!

i missed the breakout session today at 4:35. What did we do??

went over how to install and run JES, and basic programming commands and functions. read on into the book and you'll be fine. But you did miss some great "apple pie"!

REMOVED and Noble will have the PRS units in by Monday evening.

JES does download, but it's big. You're better off buying the book and using the CD that comes in the back. It's on there, too. There's nothing wrong with downloading JES with Windows ME – it's just a question whether or not it will run. Windows ME is old, slow, and incompatible with newer software. If JES on its own won't work, you can try the console-lomem128 version – that will often work if you have too little memory or have a more senior computer. Mark Guzdial

Just a note on the syllabus: the PDF link to next week's breakout is broken. It should point to "PictureManipulations.ppt" but instead points to "PictureManipulations.1.ppt" However I managed to download the ppt file and it's uncorrupted. -Andrew REMOVED

Andrew – the number just indicates that there's been a revision to the file. It's okay – that's the right file. And I just downloaded it and opened it with no problems–perhaps your browser munged it up? Mark Guzdial

What is the website for registering your name so you can check your course grade? Is it webpage.cc.gatech.edu? The website doesn't work.
