We tend to be flexible with lab 1 because everything is getting checked out. The TA Verification page won't work for the first lab – you're not using the JES turnin system yet. Mark Guzdial
Type the writeup into the actual email. Not as an attachment. Larry Olson
Press Home at the top of this page, then click on the Who's Who-Summer 2004 link. Mark Guzdial
The directions at the top of the page indicate that there will be a place to add your name by just pressing add. Instead, you actually need to press the 'edit' button on the CoWeb page you wish to edit (who's who). You'll be able to add yourself as others have done by putting asterisks around your name. -kk
The turnin system for this semester isnt quite finished being updated yet. Hold off on your submission until sunday night.Larry Olson
Hold off for the same reason as above most likely Larry Olson
We will be checking that you corrected blatant spelling errors. Do not worry about punction and grammar checks. Also do not worry about the proper nouns that Word thinks are misspelled. I would offer though that writibility is something that may want to check into ... Larry Olson
Email me your name and gtg number Larry Olson
Save it as a .doc, no rtfs, html, or anything other than .doc Larry Olson
Though, if you meant to ask what to name the file, give it a name that _ends_ in .doc -kk
The answer is yes and no. It depends on what OS you are using. If you are using windows, the JRE you need is included in JES. If you are on a Mac then you may need to run software update a few times to to get the most up-to-date version of java (Macs come with Java 1.3 when you buy them). If you are using Linux, then you will need to download Java from Sun's website. Larry Olson
Double check and make sure you are connected to the internet. If that isnt the issue, then make sure that you are registered with your gtg num, not you 901 num. If that doesnt do it then email me you gtg num, your name and you section. Also attempt a turnin from another computer with JES on it.(I believe the library cluster has JES). Larry Olson
You should have used the JES command "writePictureTo()" earlier in the lab to write a picture to your harddrive. After that, there are instructions in the word part of the lab on how to insert a picture and you should insert the picture that you wrote out during the JES portion of the lab. Larry Olson
web works..link is on the homepage Lauren Walker
IF you ARE in Blake O'Hare's section, then try one more time. I found a small bug in the system and fixed it. IF you AREN'T in his section then follow the Crash and Burn section in part A of lab2. Larry Olson
If JES is running, close it and then try to move mediasources. If that doesnt work, then right click on the mediasources directory that is already on your harddrive and view its properties. You should see something about the file being read only somewhere. Make sure that the readonly box isnt selected. After that, try again. If that doesnt work, you can try renaming either of the mediasources directories. (Im not on a windows machine right now and I cannot remember what all the various file command options are in windows or I would give you more detailed instructions). If none of the above methods works, then visit a TA at office hours ASAP or email me to make an appointment. Larry Olson
5 PM, EST. Dannon Baker
You can download the mediasources folder which contains all images, sounds, etc. that are used in class and/or needed for assignments at http://coweb.cc.gatech.edu/mediaComp-plan/uploads/40/mediasources-for-Fall2003.zip Nicole Seekely
Yup – email one of the TAs or instructors and tell us which page you need us to unlock. Mark Guzdial
That sounds great to me. With regards to plagarism, as long as you don't just copy and paste from the article and instead paraphrase/summarize, you should be fine. Nicole Seekely
Yes, email one of us and we can use the magical, mystical super-password to unlock it. Mark Guzdial
They should correlate in some way. Mark Guzdial
Try the PowerPoint help. What exactly are you trying to animate? Mark Guzdial
The editor window is where you type in programs or look at programs(.py files) that have been opened. It is white. The command window is where you run programs it is black. Larry Olson
Yes you may as long as all the requirements are still met. Nicole Seekely
Sure is!! Nicole Seekely
Where are you trying to attach your picture to? CoWeb or to your prism account? And if through prism/acme, then what program are you using? Nicole Seekely
Okay, username is attach and password is carmen. It might be vice versa. Nicole Seekely
When you have the body tag use bgcolor=#XXXXXX See the section on Tables in the Lab. Also, check out the link to W3C schools Larry Olson
You cannot create a "Title" in the body area. You can make some large text that serves as a title. If you think that the title code isnt working, then look at the very top left corner of your webbrowser (in the title bar) to see what it says. Larry Olson
No, you do not necessarily have to type the lab4 part. Just www.prism.gatech.edu/~gtXXXXX. If that doesnt bring it up though, then add the Lab4 part Larry Olson
If you are uploading on CoWeb, I don't think you have the ability to delete any uploaded files. It is okay to just leave them there, if you would like to replace an older version of a file with a newer one, then just upload it again and it will copy over it. If your website is on prism, then you should be able to just right click and delete the file. Nicole Seekely
Hmm, I'm not quite sure but if you leave your name or gtg number I can look for you. It may be that your chmod permissions are not set properly, but that would give you an error or access denied, not just white space. Nicole Seekely
If you have saved the file as an html file, you can start a web browser then select "File" then "Open File...". After that, you can select your html file that you want to preview. You can go ahead and post on the coweb and make changes. We just dont want you making changes after the turnin time (5PM 6.25.2004) Larry Olson
If the title bar shows what you have typed between the title tags, then it is working. Larry Olson
Where is your page located? Try accessing it as www.prism.gatech.edu/~gtXXXXX Larry Olson
Try dling a fresh copy of WINSCP. If that doesnt work, OIT has a FAQ on how to upload to prism. If that doesnt work, then visit someone at OIT or one of the TAs. Larry Olson
You can change it anytime until it is due. Larry Olson
Likely, your html isnt quite right. Point me or one of the other TA's to your page and we can have a look. Larry Olson
Have you uploaded your pictures to the Coweb? Larry Olson
The stars are actually just one large image. I used the paint tool in Adobe Photoshop and there are all sorts of different paint brushes you can pick so I just picked the star one and dragged it across the canvas. I don't know if you have Photoshop, but I think there are other free photoshop-like programs out there that probably do the same thing. http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gtg550r Nicole Seekely
You can do it the exact same way you did your first page. Just upload it in addition to your other page and then you should be able to link to it. Nicole Seekely
Post or e-mail your code so we can see what's goin on. Nicole Seekely
" "?
It adds in one space. Like hitting the space bar one time. Nicole Seekely
You can change it up until the due date and time which I believe is Friday at 5:00p.m.? After that, you will have to wait until the TA grades it, and the time that takes all depends on the TA. We are supposed to have them graded within a week of the date due. Nicole Seekely
I'm a little confused. If you went to JES and added the link and resaved, you still need to upload it again to update it - whether that be upload it to coweb or prism. Does that help or did you already do that? Nicole Seekely
Did you make sure that you closed the anchor tag? Did you make sure that there was some text in between the anchor tags? Could you point one of us towards your webpage if these are not the issues? Larry Olson
If you go to the Who's Who page and click on edit that's at the top of the page, you should be able to add your name. Just type your name in between astericks in the appropriate spot and then click save. Once the page is refreshed it should have a create box next to your name which you can then create your page with. Nicole Seekely
To attach things to the page is attach : carmen. Larry Olson
Must not be any actual HTML there. Make sure you've uploaded you HTML page. Larry Olson
You dont need the lock password. That is only for locking your page. As for the password to use to attach things to your page from off campus, see the above posts or the FAQ. Larry Olson
Y'all it would probably be alot easier and quicker for you if you posted your name so we could go check your specific html instead of guessing at the problem. But, have you made sure the filenames in your webpage match the image file names. If there are spaces in your filename, they should be represented by a "%". Nicole Seekely
Some of the permissions must still be wrong. Try to see what they are or visit OIT tomorrow morning after class and point them towards your page. Larry Olson
Double check your img tags. None of them appear to be quite right. If you are curious about proper tags, wander around and look at other student's webpages. Then view the source of those pages. Larry Olson
Yep. You can do it for the sake of being neat. Larry Olson
You probably need to change the location that the file is being written to to reflect someplace on your computer. Larry Olson
If you attempted the bonus portion of the Lab, then you will submit ExcelCode.py . The difference between ExcelLab.py and ExcelCode.py is that you have modified ExcelCode.py. Otherwise, you will just turnin your Excel spreadsheet. Larry Olson
I had this same problem on the last homework after having written the code on another computer, the only way I could figure out how to make it work was to make a new folder directly on the C:\ (go to my computer, c:\, and then create a new folder). In my code line it looks like this : r"C:\\linksfolder\\DisneyPrices.txt" i've tried copying and pasting stuff but that didn't work, so I had to type that in. Also note that that's where you have to go to find your stuff now. Christine Dehn
What version of Excel are you using? Larry Olson
Go ahead and save it, just besure to save it as a .xls (excel) file. Also, you may want to try to open your excel file on some other computer (perhaps in the library) to make sure that everything you have done is as you expect it. Larry Olson
If you start Excel and wander around in the various menus, you should eventually come across something that says "about Excel" or something to that effect, the version is in there. Alternately, some versions of office are labeled with what they are in the start menu. So excel might be in a folder called office2000 or office97. Larry Olson
Make sure that you arent using the exact file location I had in the code you downloaded. Change this outputFileLocation = "C:\\college\\DisneyPrices.txt" To refer to someplace on your computer. Also, make sure you are connected to the internet. Larry Olson
Head to the library, Excel is required for this. Larry Olson
I will look into it. Larry Olson
UPDATE Try it now, it should be good Larry Olson
All the commands should be there in any version of Excel. However, yes, if you are having issues, maybe it would be good to work in the library. Larry Olson
You should have downloaded the file ExcelCode.py when you first started the lab (that way it is already saved on your computer as ExcelCode.py). After that, you would then change it to ExcelLab.py if you wanted to turn it in for bonus. Also, if you are doing just the Excel stuff and not attempting the bonus, then do not even bother attaching ExcelCode.py or ExcelLab.py to your turnin. Larry Olson
Excel 2003 should be fine with regards to file size. Larry Olson
Your points should look like a semi wavy line. They should be horizontal. You should see a trendline. Unless your points are amazingly close together. These should be independent of error bars. Larry Olson
Ah well, thats good =) Larry Olson
I don't think you've read all the instructions. You were supposed to manipulated the ExcelCode.py file and then you turn that along with your Excel file in. Better double-check that! Nicole Seekely
You could open up almost any random file in JES and turn that in to make the excel turnin actually work. Larry Olson
Looks to me like you miscopied. Look at the line "urllib.urlop" ... what is "urlop" ??? Seems that urlopen would make more senese ... Larry Olson
If that was just a fat fingering and it really was urlopen, it could be because your import urllib line got cut off at the top -Blake O'Hare
No thats right. The reason we say it is similar is because you are only changing one value, namely high becomes low. Larry Olson
Send me your code, set your JES to expert mode (that can be done from the options), and then run your code to get the error message and send me the error message in the email as well. Larry Olson
It should display an actual percentage ( 2.10%) or something like that.) Larry Olson
Sounds like you should send your code to a TA so they could look at it Lauren Walker
Outputfilelocations should be changed to a location on your computer. Kelly Lyons
