I'm not sure where to post for Lab 1. It says to post for Spring 2004 (why would we do that?), but Summer 2004 is nowhere to be found.

Also, there's a lot on the coweb remaining for Spring 2004, I guess that stuff should be updated.

If you could point out where there's Spring 2004 content (e.g., send me a page name or URL), I'd be glad to fix it! Thanks! Mark Guzdial

Is anyone having trouble downloading JES for the Mac from the web? I made it work using some things from teh CD in the back of the book, but so far I haven't been able to make it work using just the .sit file listed by the Mac part of the software site. Is there something else that is needed (like Jython or some separate part to make it work? Thanks for any help, kk
I'll upload a new .sit today, KK, but I had no problem. Mark Guzdial (Happy to be using his G4 TiBook again!)

I can't use picture and sound files from my own computer although I can use the picts off the CD... what could be going wrong?
Are you using pickAFile() to get them or are you hard coding the path. Also, what kind of computer are you on? Rather, not what kind, but what operating system? Also, what kind of picture and sound files are you trying to use from your own computer? .wav, .mp3, .png, .gif, .jpg, etc. ?Larry Olson
Also, be sure to INSTALL JES on to your computer. It won't work right running it from the CD. Mark Guzdial

I've been using pickAFile(), although I did try at one time to hard code the picture. I'm using Windows XP and the picture was a .jpg although I tried it as a .bmp as well...
Only .jpg files will work. Make sure the file REALLY was a .jpg – sometimes .bmp files accidentally get named .jpg, but since it's not REALLY a JPEG, JES won't work with it. (GIF files SHOULD work.) Mark Guzdial

I've just uploaded the latest Windows and Mac versions of JES up to Course Software (JES). Mark Guzdial
