Here are answers to some of the most common questions about TA-ing for CS1315.
TA's cannot work more than 18 hours a week without permission from the one that signs your timesheet. TAs can never work over 20 hours per week - that is a hard limit set by GT.
Currently, we have two kinds of TA-ing positions:
regular TAs taing for pay (so they have at least TAed once before.)
ATA's- apprentice TAs TAing for the first time. There are intended to help lead recitation/workshop, but not without a regular TA present.
There is a weekly meeting that TA's are expected to attend, currently Monday at 5 pm in CCB 109. (Spring 2008 location)
TA's are also expected to answer questions in the CoWeb and via email/IM up to their availability per week (e.g., if you can afford an hour a day doing CoWeb/email/IM questions besides office hours and grading responsibilities, then you put in an hour a day.)
Exams are graded in non-stop sessions with all TA's and instructors.
First time TA's are required to TA for credit (3 hours, letter grade credit) and will produce something useful (long term) for the course, besides normal grading and student support. This item is called the "TA artifact". They are also required to take the 1 hour CETL 2000 course that typically is taught at 11 am on Thursday. It is pass/fail and based primarily on attendance and participation.
There currently is no requirement for specific hours (e.g., night hours) other than grading sessions and meetings. TA's are often asked by students to hold review sessions before exams, which do count toward hours, but are not required of the TA's.
