I could do without the take home exam....but I want more Yellow Jackets. San Antonio here we come!!

So, is there a reason we're turning in Lab 5 when we don't even have grades for Lab 4 yet? (At least my section doesn't have grades up yet.) I know TAs have lives too, so I don't expect grades instantly, but I thought we'd have those by now.

Lab 4 was just due a week ago. TA's have a deadline of two weeks. Assignments got crammed together this term around this time. We'll catch up with grading, but within the two week range. Mark Guzdial

I like that the midterm problems incorporate several elements into one program, but it is a lot more stress when each problem counts so much. Do you think the final could be made up of maybe 10 10-point problems instead of 5 20-point problems?
Typically, the final has more multi-part problems, fewer programming problems. Mark Guzdial

What happens if one turns in an assignment a little late...let's say less than an hour past due, do you get a zero or will the TA's just take points off?
Contact your TA. Mark Guzdial

Lab 5 was extremely tedious and did not need to be that time consuming.
Thanks for the input – we are trying to rewrite and improve the Excel lab. Mark Guzdial

Will there be a general announcement, say on the announcement page, when we can edit our webpages? Thanks! Stephanie Henderson

As soon as you have a Lab 4 grade, go ahead and edit away! Mark Guzdial

will we have all our grades going into the final? i know that the ta's have 2 weeks. just wondering...
I think we are supposed to have all grades back to you by end of Dead Week. Ashley Coker

How do we get Moviemaker to work on a Windows machine? I have seen it run on a Mac but whenever I try to run it on Windows, it asks me for the starting ending frames but then when I say create movie this DOS-like screen appears and all this text appears in that window but nothing else happens. It never asks me to name/save the movie or enter the frame rate. It essentially does nothing, from what I can see.
I only use it on Windows and works for me. I've asked Adam, who wrote MovieMaker, to respond here. Mark Guzdial
What are the starting and ending frames that you are choosing? What does the does the dos-like screen say? Thanks. Keith McDermott

The take home exam was really easy, but now I keep wondering whether I have something to do or not, and I don't. Exciting!

More importantly, are we going to have a review for the final like we had for the midterms? That would be great!
So glad that you got the Take-Home done already and found it easy! Are you looking for a review like a written review, or a review session by the TA's? Absolutely for the former – you can visit the Fall2003 Final Exam Review to see what it might look like. For the latter, it's up to the TA's. Mark Guzdial

Yeah that would be great!!!

In reference to the Moviemaker question above I have ran the movingRectangle function in JES and it creates the 1-99 frames. I say the starting frame is 01 and the ending frame is 99 (obviously with the complete path). Then when I say create movie the dos-like screen says
at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.fireActionPerformed
at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.setPressed
at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicButtonListener.mouseReleased....etc etc....about 50 lines of it.

I do not think that the take-home exam is easy at all. Hooray for whoever finished it, but I think it's impossible : (

Agreed. Even if you read the assignment 9 times, literally, it doesn't seem to help.

What comes after CS1315?

I noticed that pre-quiz 3 is distributed on Friday, April 9 (GOOD FRIDAY) which means many of us students will be going home/spending time with family that weekend since it is Easter weekend. I think it's pretty bad that we have a quiz the day after Easter, but since that probably won't be changed, can the pre-quiz at least be posted online earlier than Friday so that we can work on it before Easter weekend if we choose? Thanks!

We'll try to get the pre-quiz out by Thursday. Mark Guzdial

I am also having the same problem getting a movie to run on my computer. I put the program in JES, loaded it, and went to MovieMaker. I selected the starting and ending frames(01&99) with their full paths. When I clikcked on make movie a screen asking for inputs(how many fps i want my movie to run) came up. I tried everthing I knew from 30 to 30fps. I don't know what to do and I would like to get done with HW 5 soon. PLEASE HELP!

To add to the above, when I type in the number of fps all it does is show me the input screen again-the movie won't run at all! What can I do to fix this?

I find the take home exam to be difficult too....

Question about lab 4.. if we loaded it onto prism and did a pop up page, should our grade be 110 or will this be tacked onto the end later? Thanks Melanie Nelson

why are our grades from the 2nd midterm not up yet?

Because we spent all day today grading them - with much coffee, carbohydrate and jangly music. This was a long scheduled event, designed to avoid faculty travel schedules. We like to grade as a group of instructors/TAs rather than individually on an "as soon as possible" basis, as it leads to fairer and more efficient marking. I didn't make it clear to the 2pm class that grades would not be available for a week because of that schedule. Right now (6:30pm on Thursday) some grading remains to be done and will be finished tonight or tomorrow morning. Grades are being put into a spreadsheet as we go and should be uploaded to Webworks and be available soon after we have finished. Colin Potts

If you have a Lab4 grade, the whole grade is done. See your TA for any questions about it. Mark Guzdial

Thank you for the extension on the take home exam

It's been over 2 weeks and I have still not received my grade for Lab 4

is the final worth more than the midterms?

Final is worth exactly the same as the midterms, but will be longer and comprehensive. Mark Guzdial

Email your TA's and Colin and Blair to remind them to bring you your midterms on Monday... Mark Guzdial

Must be nice to have you office hours in Starbucks!

GO YELLOW JACKETS! WE ARE AMAZING.... ON FIRE!

why is my lab 4 grade not up yet? it is my whole ta's section. just wondering...(2 weeks?...)

Wondering the same thing... Stephanie Henderson
