What's your favorite Atlanta area eating establishment?
Dish
By far the best fine dining in Virginia Highlands (right down Ponce) and worth splurging one night even just to try a starter. It's expensive, but not wasted.
Amanda
The Marietta Diner
If you want a true diner style experience, go to the Marietta Diner located on Cobb parkway just north of the lower part of the 120 loop. Me and a bunch of friends went there late one night, and were immediately captivated by the mouth watering cakes and pies that were on display as soon as you walk in the doors. They have a great menu with everything you can imagine, from creme of spinich soup to patty melt sandwiches. They are reasonably priced compared to the portion of food that you get. It has a great atmosphere for late night study groups. If you need some great food with a good atmosphere then head to the Marietta Diner Ryan Parrish
Cafe Sunflower - for those of you that are vegetarian, this is/should be your place of choice whenever you have little extra cash lying around.
PHO~ BAC
The Best PHO in Atlanta. Pho is rice noodle with soup.
TIN DRUM ASIA CAFE:
By far the best restaurant on Tech Campus. The food is great, and the service is amazing (friendly and fast). They have a wide variety of choices that will quench any hunger. I higly recommend this restaurant !! Not to mention, the prices are extremely reasonable.
NIKIMOTO'S
The best place for sushi in all of Atlanta. I think their Rangoons (cream cheese filled, fried wontons) are wonderful. It is located at 10th Street and Piedmont. Rae Lynch
Figo Pasta:
Located on Howell Mill, just east of 14th street. Wonderful pick a pasta-pack a sauce scenario. Get anything you want here (If it's Italian, that is...) catherine ann sistrunk
Melting Pot – My favorite place to eat by far. It is a fondue type restaurant, so plan to be there for at least 3 hours to prepare the food. Although it is a little expensive it really is worth it!! :)
Another good fondue restaurant is Dante's Down the Hatch, across from Swissotel on Peachtree near Lenox Square. Live alligators and a pirate-ship theme may sound a little corny, but it's actually a rather refined place to dine. Go ahead and pay the cover charge to be seated in view of the live jazz band. Cost for two should be about $70 total...Not for everyday dining, but a fun place for a date. The fondue adds a nice element of interaction. Oh, and the meat is guaranteed to be so tender that the only cutting implement you receive will be a dull butter knife. Jaron Hendrix
Taqueria del Sol – next intersection north of 14th Street on Howell Mill. Try the fish taco! And you must order the cheese dip as well. http://www.taqueriadelsol.com
Let me add my aproval to this selection!!! The food is great and one of the guys who owns it went to Tech! (I don't know whether we should feel sorry for him or not... ;) )
YUM, they have awesome specialty tacos....and yes must have the Cheese Dip :D
Cafe Tu Tu Tango – down in Buckhead on Pharr Rd. Great food, great environment! http://www.cafetututango.com
Doc Chey's Noodle House–on North Highland Avenue. I could eat there every day. Cheap + big portions = Perfect for the college budget! http://www.doccheysnoodlehouse.com
Tamarind – on 14th street across the interstate from tech. If you like thai, you must go there. mmm. the pad thai is delicious and so is everything else i'm sure! here's a review by the technique
Eats – on Ponce de Leon. Cheap and awesome pastas along with other stuff~ Amy Phuong
The Atlanta Fish Market was great. It's a nice romantic place:)
I totally recommend El Torero on North Druid Hills just off I-85. I grew up in California and I haven't had such good, cheap Mexican food ever in the South. Not quite as good as Mexico City, but great for Georgia. There is a huge menu with large portions, and it won't cost you more than $10 including drinks. Nothing is gourmet, just comfort food like your Grandma would make...if she were a mean cook from Mexico. Try the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. Lauren Biddle Limmerick Junction— it's got really great Irish sodabread!!!!!!!! It's also got great Irish music on the weekends. It's a real jovial atmosphere!!! QUEDOBA- is SO much better than Moe's and Willy's, its right down Ponce in the Home Depot and Pet's Mart Shopping Center and has the best burritos Jason Plamp
Willy's California Style Burritos is a really great place for a cheap and good burrito!!!
Moe's on Ponce or Peachtree is great for a big, cheap burrito. Once the one on campus opens I'll be there every day!
If you travel a bit north of Atlanta (75 north) to the Windy Hill exit and hop onto highway 41/ Cobb parkway, there's this great hole in the wall Japanese restaurant. I like it because it's not one of those gimmicky type joints. It's called Umezono. You'll find an array of fresh sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, all preceded with salad and miso soup. I've been eating there for years and haven't gotten sick once. Expect to pay about $15 a person for a combo entree plus tax and tip. It's next to a bartending school and Boomers. Mee Ae Park
La Fonda in Little Five Points is awesome. They serve traditional Spanish food, and they have really tasty drinks! There is another location on Ponce, but I recommend this one. Liz Simpson
Sundial Restaurant Bar & View (www.sundialrestaurant.com) is an excellent place to eat. It is located at the top of The Westin Peachtree Plaza. This rotating restaurant offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Atlanta. It is more on the pricy side, but if you have not yet gone, I would definately save up the money and go for the experience...or bring that "special someone"! Happy person's R us
I love Tin Drum on Tech Square. Its not your normal Asian food (try the Crab n Cheese spring rolls with sweet chili sauce) so it'll be a new experience. You get a lot of food for your money, the guy who owns it, Tom, is really friendly, and they have extremely quick service. Summar Shoaib
Fifth Street Ribs and Blues
Words cannot describe to you the finger licking goodness that is Fifth Street Ribs and Blues. If you like Bar-B-Q then it is the place for you and if you don't like BBQ then something is wrong and you should try it out anyway. It has not been open long, but they are already doing things to bring students in. The latest is allowing tech student to use Buzz Cards. Along with that they are they have a Trivia night every thursday night and at the moment they are petioning the city to allow the to have live music. If everyhting works out Fifth Street Ribs and Blues is going to be a happening place for students to go and take a load off. Even if things with the Live music doesn't work out it is a great location and the food is, as Tony The tiger would say GEEERRRR-ATE, so give it a try. And tell them Kenny sent you. Kenny Bradley
Eatzi's is by far my favorite restaurant. It's like a supermarket, sub shop, salad buffet, and rotisserie all at the same time. You'll have to walk around for like 20 minutes before you will be able to decide what you want. It's awesome. Meredith Harman
A great place to eat is Ruby Tuesday's...They have great food (especially the steak) and service. Be sure to make room for dessert. The strawberry tallcakes are very tasty!. Heather Brown
Tin Drum Cafe in Tech Square is a great restaurant. The Asian food is amazing and the prices aren't too steep. The only bad thing about the restaurant is that they don't accept the Buzz Card, so if you are going to try it out make sure that you have cash or a credit card. page removed
The absolute best place in the world is the Ben and Jerry's Scoop Shop, located in the 800 block of Highland off of North Ave! So when you have the urge to slurge and cheat on your diet you can go eat whatever flavor of ice cream that fits your mood, especially since there is a much better in the Scoop Shop than can be bought at the store. Juliann Young
Fogo de Chao - If you have some extra money to spend (like $50), about 15 waiters walk around with different kinds of meats. They are amazing. They also have a great salad bar. It's all you can eat, so go hungry. The filet is to die for. Caroline McCormick
Wolfgang Puck
Inexpensive, tasty, not fast food but prompt! I suggest the butternut squash soup and the BBQ quesadillas. To get there take Peachtree north towards buckhead. Continue until you see a Kroger on the right. It is attached to the same building and its on the corner. poof #14
The Vortex http://www.thevortexbarandgrill.com
A fun place to go for a burger with friends, but if you're not 21 it closes early on the weekends. And make sure you read the front of the menu...it's funny. Jennifer Sigg
Pasta da Pulcinella (sp?) is off of Peachtree Walk. It's a great pasta place; their food is very different and the presentation is beautiful. It's a little pricy, but it's a very nice place. Catherine Stevens
The Horseradish Grill is near Chastain Park and is a great restaurant. They have wonderful southern food and a nice location. No Longer Here
Cheesecake Factory is by far the best! Its kinda a long drive- its in Buckhead, but its sooo worth it!! Rachel King
Rusan's is one of the best restaurants in town if you like sushi. It's not too expensive and decent quality. Matt Nichols
ZESTO!!! An old ATL burger joint on Ponce. Try their awesome ARCTIC SWIRLS. I like the NanaNilla, and the EmiNem, and wait...ha actually i like all of them. It's iccccecrrream. Mmmmm btw Zesto tops off DQ's blizzards.
Open 'til midnite! Mireille Murad
Eclipse Di Luna located in Miami Circle has great atmosphere serving cuban influenced tapas food. The wait is a lil long even with a reservation so I recommend getting there early. Grace Chung
SALT:
Salt is a relatively new restaurant in the midtown area. It has a wide variety of entrees such as "Le Big Mac n Cheese" and the "Maple Grilled Salmon". It's located across from Spice, another midtown hotspot. Stephanie Levin
Uncle Vito's
This New York style pizza chain is one of the best I have come across.
Their pizza is very thin and tasty. Their other foods are alright, but better can be found at other places. Kyle Brech
WENDY'S
Yeah, Wendy's is great because everything there is 99 cents... enough said. David Hammock
Doc Chey's in Emory Village or the Highlands is much better than Tin Drum. The food is better, and the food is cheaper. Try it out when you get a chance. Steven Bowden Baroanda!
Just go straight under 75/85 at the 3rd st. tunnel and walk up to the corner of Peachtree St. Prices are alright and the gourmet pizzas are awesome. If you live on East campus, it's a short walk and well worth it. The usual crowd has that whole "we're too cool" feel, but it's fun to sit and observe those that take themselves way too seriously. If you're old enough, try some of the wine they make themselves. Hillary Jones
I have to recommend Steak & Shake. Similar to the Varsity, just a better environment with milkshakes that cannot be beaten. Nearest one is in Buckhead. Michael Warwick
I love RuSan's Midtown (17th and Peachtree). It's a little pricey, so the best time to go is for the lunch buffet (so much sushi, sooo good - for ten dollars you get miso soup and all you can eat sushi). Go with a big group, the more the better - it's loud there when its crowded, so not the best date restaurant. If you're of age, two words: sake bomb.
Also try Papi's on Ponce. If you're headed away from campus it's on your left, before the Spaghetti Factory and Kripy Kreme. It's authentic Cuban food (for any of you who lived in or near Miami and love Cuban sandwiches) and priced well. It's also a great environment, with free parking (hooray!). Beth Van Gessel
FUEGO:
Spanish Grille off of Crescent Ave(just go down 14th into midtown and make a right onto it). really good tapas. Its got fair prices and the food is wonderful.
"jill davis"
Definately check out Twist at Phipps Plaza and its sister restaurant, Shout at Colony Square in Midtown! They have sandwiches, tapas, entrées, a little of the exotic and a full sushi/sashimi bar. Not to mention yummy drinks for those of you old enough to throw one back!( Drinks a bit pricey though) Lunch is the cheaper price, but dinner is still quite affordable, ranging in the 8-15 $ bracket. After dark these restaurants turn into something comparable to the swanky club scene. Shout has a bar on the roof (2nd story) and plays popular music to dance to once you've loosened up a bit!
Rocky Mountain Pizza - Best pizza place around GT campus. Its on 10th St. and Hemphill I think. It's cheap, the food is great, and it has gret atmosphere. Sports bar also.
Hard Rock Cafe - Expensive but worth it. The food is awesome, the service is great. Its really neat (especially if you appreciate rock music) to see all the guitars and stuff of famous musicians hanging on the walls. Everyone must go there at some point in there life. It's in midtown somewhere on Peachtree St. I think.
Little Azio's is a pretty good pizza place around here. It is right off Northside, so it is really easy to get to. Caroline Kogan
Six Feet Under- fish placec off howell mill, turn next to Slice
