Measuring the quality of human computer interaction: Looking beyond performance and satisfaction
In the preliminary stages of my topic development, I have come across a question that has been largely untouched in the literature: the formulation of standard quality metrics for human computer interaction. I hypothesize that assessments of quality utilizing solely measures of performance and use satisfaction do not suffice, especially for user groups with limited abilities. It is necessary to measure quality as a function of several components of user interaction. This presentation will scope some of the fundamental concepts of usability and quality that we are all familiar with, while also looking to disciplines outside the realm of HCI for their approach to the appraisal of quality. Your experiences and opinions will be of great value to me as I begin to formulate the groundwork for my dissertation.
