Evaluations of U.S. Department of Education, Secretary’s Commission for Opportunity in Athletics
This commission on the “Opportunity in Athletics” seems a little biased, leaning in favor of Title IX, in the beginning. The article does present relevant facts that prove to show Title IX's impact on women both academically and athletically. This commission addresses seven key questions ranging from “Are title IX standards for assessing equal opportunity in athletics working to promote opportunities for male and female athletes?” (page 7) and “How should activities such as cheerleading or bowling factor into the analysis of equitable opportunities?” (page 7). The Commission also presents a “Spectrum of Opinions” on page 11. Although lengthy this article has plenty of material that can be used to write an effective policy position paper in support of either side.
